I have a house which I am renovating, and my mother is dealing with the builders because I work away during the weekdays. The slating needed doing on the roof, and we employed the services of a roofer through the recommendation of a friend. The roofer turned out be a cowboy and we paid him over the odds for a job which he messed up. He didn't return so we had to get someone else in to repair the damage that he caused.

The original roofer has left his scaffolding erected since the 23rd May, and despite many calls/texts has not been back to remove his scaffolding ( which doesn't have any tags/contact info on it)

What's the best course of action for me to get the scaffolding removed? I don't want to pay someone to remove it

I'd have got the 2nd bunch to remove the scaffolding too. I'm sure they can always do with some more.

If the original firm asks for it back, you can simply say that it has already been collected.

Scaffolding is normally colour coded. If the builder was a bit of a cowboy then it is possible it is 'recycled' and he might be a bit reluctant to return.

The colour coding would be on the end of the poles.

Was it the roofer's scaffolding or a 3rd party?

Most scaffolders hate removing scaffolding until they need it, as they then have to move it twice.
They prefer to take it down when they actually need to scaffolding and take it straight to the next job...

Tell them they are going to be charged for storage until they come and pick it up.

I've had some up for a couple of weeks now (the job took a day) and figured the same - it saves them storage space and unloading etc.

Is the scaffold company's name not embossed into the tubes? I'd be taking it down myself.

You know those types that travel, have dags and offer to your drive for three thirds of nothing - give them the nod and it will be gone before you know it.

We did this. Bought a commercial shop , previous owner had work carried out and finished some weeks prior. Property completed and as the new owners we wanted the scaffolding down as it was blocking the shop front.

Called the scaffolding people explained the situation, work finished been 2 weeks property now sold. - lady I spoke to on reception of scaffolding people was very stty and didn't give a ste and wouldn't say by when they would take it down or any understanding of the issue.

Pissed me off. I wrote and Gave them 7 days to remove scaffolding or we would take it down, remove off site and store at £x a day and would not return until paid.

They removed it a day after getting the letter.

Our previous builder ordered scaffolding from a local company who kindly wrapped it all around our house, shortly before said builder did a bunk...

Initially the scaffolding company said they would leave it up until it was paid for, but as we didn't contract with them directly, we asked them to contact the builder.
They were still a bit short with us about it so we suggested that if they didn't want to remove it, we would drop round to the local "caravan club" and ask them if they wanted a load of scrap metal...

The scaffolding was collected the following day.

What I did realise is that dismantling it was not an easy option for us - I didn't fancy climbing up and loosening bolts above the roofline whilst I'm still stood on it!

Put it on Gumtree.

Free to the first person to come and take it away.

Problem solved.

If it was from a proper scaffold co, no other company will touch it, its taboo in the scaffold world.

Along with any lead flashing, new rooftiles and anything else shiny that they see through the windows...
