Pub Next Door - Noisy Bouncy Castle
Discussion
I posted on here some time ago when the pub next door had regular live music which was unbearable. Since then it's changed hands several times. The current licensee has put up a bouncy castle to attract families, fair enough. The trouble for me is that the castle goes up every day and the fan while not excessively noisy creates a constant humming sound. This prevents me from enjoying sitting in my own garden.
I haven't spoken with the pub management yet as I wanted to know what the rules (if any) are before I do so.
Anybody have any experience or know the laws about this?

How does a fan prevent you sitting in you garden? Is it a really big fan?
Bouncy castle fans run constantly. Hired one last week for a birthday party, was fairly noisy. However if it's close enough to bother I'd presume other beer garden noises such as chat, laughter etc would be more prominent.

At the risk of sounding like a clever sod, I have rules about house buying locations.I haven't spoken with the pub management yet as I wanted to know what the rules (if any) are before I do so.

First thing to do is go and have a chat with the management of the pub. They might not even be aware it's causing you a problem. I assume you are not trying to get them to stop using the thing altogether but are seeking to find a mutually agreeable arrangement whereby they can operate the bouncy castle and you can enjoy your garden. Eg. perhaps they could relocate the bouncy castle/fan, or only operate certain times. So don't start off down the official route, see what can be achieved through discussions with them. You really want to avoid getting in to a dispute with your neighbours.
If you do eventually complain to the Council, they will ask you to keep a diary - dates/times/how long it went on for etc. so it's worth doing that now anyway. Also remember to make a note of your meetings/conversations/outcomes with the pub management.
All that said, and without wishing to state the obvious, if you choose to live next door to a pub with a garden you're going to have to accept there will be pub garden noise!
Best of luck.

Did you not consider that noise would possibly be an issue and quiet enjoyment of your garden would be highly unlikely when buying your house next to a pub?
Re the bouncy castle I do know someone who has a bouncy castle at their smallish tourist attraction and the local council have told them it has to be supervised by a member of staff at ALL times.

Yes, of course I have accept some noise from a pub garden. My point here is that the sound is constant, all day every day. No need for a noise diary I would say.Re the bouncy castle I do know someone who has a bouncy castle at their smallish tourist attraction and the local council have told them it has to be supervised by a member of staff at ALL times.

I expect the rules regarding supervision vary from council to council.

I doubt when playing a word association game, you or anyone else would reply "bouncy castle" if "pub" was mentioned though. And it must be a bloody small bouncy castle if a 13A single phase fan is keeping it inflated. But correct me if I'm wrong please.
Bloody kids.

I've been here for 20 years. The pub was a boozer when I moved in, of course there was some noise but it was not too intrusive. As I said the problem now is that the fan / blower for the castle is running all day every day.
ahhhhh priceless the op complains about the pub next door playing loud music and now when that isn't happening complains about the pub putting on family orientated entertainment.
by all means go and complain to the pub manager apart from a few platitudes at best i doubt you will get very far and indeed it may encourage them to put even nosier events on.
Never ever buy a house near a school, pub or community centre. i would rather live near some light industrial because at least then most of your Sundays will be quiet.

Not ideal, but just accept the fact you willingly purchased a property next to a pub.I haven't spoken with the pub management yet as I wanted to know what the rules (if any) are before I do so.
