Does anybody have a G350 diesel Mercedes?

I just love the look of them and their utilitarian style. I am looking at the 2011 model but would like to understand the running costs/reliability/ things to look out for.

It will be used as a weekend vehicle/tow vehicle for my track bike and general run around. My other half has a car and I have a van for my track bike but it does not get used apart from that. I see they hold their value extremely well and it would be a vehicle to keep for a long time. I would then sell the van and get a trailer.

I use my motorbike for most things (commuting/popping to the shops etc)

not sure about the diesel version, but the G class is rock solid. They are very sturdy and if looked after properly, will go on forever. Entry price is very high but so are residuals.

there are some good specialist forums on these, have a search and you'll find all the info there. (I'm never selling mine)

I never understood why these are so insanely expensive - I know they're good, but still. Aren't all the newer ones LHD, too?

I've never driven one but I'm told it's closer to a Defender than a Range Rover in terms of ride and handling.

I have a 24 year old G300 petrol.

It has something of a drink problem, but everything still works.

Ride very bouncy, a bit noisy, good driving position, made of real metal, love the '90s Mercedes spartan cabin.

If you're near Solihull, come and take a look

I can see the appeal but isnt an M Class or similar a way better proposition for most ? if not anywhere near as distinctive.

I think the G Wagon and its associated costs are something you either get, or don't get.

Personally I don't get.

But then I have no need for that sort of vehicle so have never really looked deeply into it to understand the value equation more fully.
