We had earthquakes here long before any fracking started (Feb 2008, 5.2) and long after they stopped (2013, 2.4 and 3.2)

Quite. So on the basis that the earthquakes are basically irrelevant, i'm going to take it that the chemicals are as well.
Looking through this list: https://fracfocus.org/chemical-use/what-chemicals-... most of them that i've looked up i'd find in my house.

That is a short sighted view. A modern economy need not be inextricably linked to fossil fuels. T
Really? Show me one that isn't.
Exactly. Even Norway, that paragon of reneables, sells massive volumes of fossil fuels...that it get's carbon certificates for as they're not 'using' the fossil fuels. wtf.

I'm glad someone at cuadrilla is taking the seismic activity more seriously than a few jokers on here.

Another source said it’s the 17th earthquake in nine days. Not good.

I agree. It is concerning in relation to fracking in general.

However, it is Blackpool and if the earth opened up and swallowed the place it wouldn't be a great loss.

There's been similar around Surrey recently. Is this just a coincidence?

Pure coincidence I am sure, after all - if it wasn't safe I'm sure they'd not be allowed to do it.

There is no such thing as freedom of speech or freedom of expression in the UK and there hasn't ever been a time where it was to my knowledge

The way i see it is there must be a reason for all that black gold to be inside the Earth and we are sucking it all out at an alarming rate. It seems pretty obvious to me that by doing so things are going to shift and fall to take the place of where there was once such liquid.

I have no opinion though about it either way. In terms of protesting. Its not going to do any good anyway.

Whilst it's obviously qualified. We have had freedom of expression since 1998.

There are quite a few views which if you express in a public place, can get you arrested.

Similar event in France this weekend; This Saturday, October 27, the earth trembled near Redon, in the south of Ille-et-Vilaine. The shake, evaluated between 3.4 and 3.6 on the Richter scale, was felt in Morbihan and Loire-Atlantique.

Hence why it's qualified.

Indeed, woking for the environment agency at mo, and talking to one of their bods, all chemicals used are passed by them first.

And the earthquake thing is also bks. Hence the govt thinking about raising the stop level.

Other than disruption to delay the works, I can’t see what the protestors hope to achieve. They might argue it’s keeping a controversial operation in the public eye, but I suspect the majority of the public are ambivalent about it.

It’s been permitted by the Government following a lengthy and detailed public inquiry. The fracking operation is subject (quite properly) to extensive and quite onerous planning conditions and will be monitored closely by the local authority and Environment Agency (amongst others). I can’t say I’m 100% happy about fracking, but that’s in part due to it being a relatively new process which I don’t have an initimate understanding and knowledg of. Time will tell whether the adverse environmental effects claimed by those opposed to it are actual.
