The local Police put this on Facebook earlier today

  • A583 UPDATE* – The A583 remains closed in both directions between Whitehills and Fox Lane Ends. This morning we had four pairs of campaigners locked on – two outside World of Water and two just up from Plumpton Lane. Our removal team has cleared two of those pairs, allowing us to get some people through to local businesses, only for two more pairs to take their place and lock on further down the road towards Kirkham. The eight campaigners are now again on both sides of the carriageway - one of the pairs at the Whitehills end is claiming to be superglued together and the other is saying they want to be cut out rather than self-release. We’ve also attempted to speak to the two new pairs at the Kirkham end at the road but they are also refusing to move voluntarily and have said they don’t care if blue light or other essential services can’t get through.
So far today, we have managed to facilitate a small number of essential journeys for local people but we want to be clear that it is absolutely not safe to allow through traffic and the A583 must remain closed until the campaigners decide to self-release or we clear them. This is having a huge impact on both local businesses and residents but we trust people understand that the carriageway must remain shut as our first priority remains the safety of everyone concerned. We’ll let you know as soon as there are any further updates. Thanks for your continuing patience.

Slide a flattened cardboard box under them then drag to the ditch.

Why can't they just drag them off the road?

Do you know what they can. They can go and protest on the side of the road and let everyone else get on with their lives.

Pity a bit to far for me to take the dogs for a walk.
They would stop and have a good sniff maybe cock their legs.

Or why not find a decent sized wasp nest and just happen to drop it close by..

About time these idiots were locked up proper.

Totally support their right to protest, but not to sabotage the freedom of movement of others.

Absolutely, everyone has the right to protest but don't commit offences by blocking roads.

We have removed some 'plane crazy' in the past, we just gave them a grass verge as a protest site and deposited them onto it.

"Google it" it's on the internet but must be true...FFS !

These youtube examples are either faked by Menatlists or from naturally occurring aquifers which contain Methane, which is a natural product from decomposition and was in the water wells way before drilling activities. PLease actually read the other side of the argument.

You do know that fracturing takes place thousand fee tplus down in rock and aquifers with water abstraction (ironically formed by drilling boreholes but to hell with logic...) are near the surface - hundreds of feet not thousands?

LIke I said on local radio, it's like a religion to some people, they will not listen to fact or reason.

For the record, I'm not for or against fracking.

Could you post some links to the other side of the argument? smile

Hopefully these links are not on the Internet, otherwise they must be true wink

I googled it and found it was flaming long before fracking started in those areas, your Google fu seems weak young one.

What pisses me off is that most protests seem to be against the things most of us want.

Motorways, roads, high speed train links, power stations. And don't shout NIMBY at me. One of my houses is within half a mile of a recycling plant. Did I object? No. They need to be built somewhere.

The protesters said, think of the noise, the pollution, your house price will half. None of this happened. How much money got wasted policing the protestors.

Granted the recycling plant was the biggest turkey ever and now lies idle but that's because recycling household waste is another red herring sold to us by those with beards who drink warm beer.

Protesters! Pah! They are not wanted and not welcome. Muck spread the lot of them.

As for the local council objecting and Government disregarding the objections. That's what Government is there for, to protect what's better for the masses when the minority don't want it.

How else would we get sewage plants and power stations or hospitals built where we need them.

What's more, I bet most of them voted Brexit.

How dare you destroy a conspiracy theory with actual facts...

You will be proving the earth isn't flat next or that Elvis wasn't kidnapped by aliens.

Just to stay on topic, people are and should be free to protest whatever crazy idea they get in their heads on any given day.

However, if that protest starts to effect others lives when they just want to go about their business, lock them up or move them on.

I'm also not far from them and although I don't agree with the fracking it is going to happen even if I don't like it and disrupting peoples lives by blocking the road is moronic. The protestors (legal and illegal) lost all my sympathy a long time ago.
They are obstructing the highway however there are already stated cases from the High Court that a persons protected human right to free protest shall not be impeded by a trivial offence such as obstruction of the highway. That is how they know they can get away with it.

You may have seen the news regarding the large protests at a fracking site in Preston, Im seeing lots of it as its just down the road.

They are causing a lot of disruption to the traffic in the area and obviously using up a lot of over stretched police resources.

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2017/jul/1...

Now, at what point can the police just remove them and allow people to get on with the jobs / lives? Or do they have to just allow them to stay as long as they want?
Reminds me of the old Union days of picketing.

If they have a grievance then write a stern letter to The Telegraph. That's if they even know what that is.

Cant they just get the fire brigade out and hose them off the road? They can't object, water is natural and organic and stuff.
