A rare paean of praise for a Council re parking permits
Discussion
A word of warning, though. I'm in Camden too. Swiss Cottage (or South Hampstead, should I be selling my flat).
Camden is indeed brilliant in letting you purchase, renew or alter your permit online. It's an ePermit scheme, they proudly proclaim. They're very good at emailing you receipts.
Come renewal time, however, they do NOT send you a reminder. Much better to ticket you three days running and then tow it to the pound, despite them having all your contact details. (Mine was parked just around the corner. I only really use it at weekends)
Make sure you set a renewal date reminder in your diary. They're apparently notorious for this, and quite unmoved by protest.

Well, it does when the naffing site works properly.
Half the time adding a vehicle/switching a vehicle is not possible owing to a glitch in the system and good luck trying to talk to a human being at Camden Council these days since they went all interwebby.

I've been trying for days to renew my resident's permit and the "renew" button is greyed out. I alerted the Council four days ago and have not had any sort of reply, holding or otherwise. There is no indication on the Camden Account of how you get to talk to a human being, assuming they employ any. In the meantime, I can't park on the street. Utter incompetent throbbers.
I wouldn't really mind their picking my pockets quite as assiduously as they do for their pet transgender projects if only they'd try a bit harder not to bugger me about and waste my time.
I was sent several polite renewal reminders, and also when I had a problem switching vehicles online I rang up, and spoke to a helpful person after a three minute wait. She sorted the problem. Maybe there are two Camdens in north London, one good one, one bad one.
I am now living overseas and council tax and parking permits do not presently exist for me.

I do not understand the initials but if you are asking about drink driving, it is commonplace here, and when driving I assume that all other road users are drunk. I am resolved to behave as I would in the UK and so I do not drink drive here. I am in fact using my stay here as an opportunity to reduce drinking to almost zero. I will drink only when off island or when someone from off island visits me.

Unsurprisingly, it turns out that the limit is the same as that in England & Wales.

Last night I went drinking in a very cool bar with a very impressive local copper (an honest and skilled man, who may not gain promotion because he is too honest) who had just sold me his Kawasaki. I had two beers and then drove home slowly. He had several beers, and was on for a sesh, as it was Full Moon (a big thing in the Caribbean). We talked of the drinking culture, as I said that the ex pats binge drink more than the locals, but he disagreed and said that the locals drink 24 7. The only other ex pats in the bar were some cool older Americans who have been here forever. Otherwise it was educated and employed local people, all cooler than cool. I avoid the ex pat bars for the most part. The local working class bars can be a bit edgy when Whitey walks in, although if you are polite and respectful the tension eases a bit.
I picked up a rider (ie a hitcher) on the way home - a one love Jah peace rastaman, who was very likely Jesus (drunk and stoned Jesus). He shared his philosophy of life, which is one love Jah peace. In return I gave him some advice about his love life, which is not going well. We parted friends.
Back on thread, Camden refunded the balance on my now cancelled parking permit very quickly.
