Have I been given a CCJ? Dartford Crossing.
Discussion
Its obviously set up to maximise profits. Its human nature to put of doing things we don't enjoy until the last minute, paying bills is one of them. I would imagine everyone who goes through has the conscious decision to pay it "in a minute" but by the time you have remembered its too late and you have a fine.
I sometimes lend tools out on site and literally nobody brings them back, its just too easy not to, I have to ask for them every time. However if I took a £10 deposit off people when they borrowed them they would bring them back every time. IT should have a toll booth or two for cash payments, the M6 Toll seems to do ok.

Not quite, I just changed my address after I moved on the V5. I have opportunity to appeal and I will be doing so.I sometimes lend tools out on site and literally nobody brings them back, its just too easy not to, I have to ask for them every time. Although I just received a letter dated 20th as a reminder to pay even though I paid on the 18th. I'm guessing that they don't bank on a Saturday and as such would have only banked the payment on the Monday.
I have emailed them to confirm this is the case.

The M6 toll road and its booths were built in open countryside. There was never that much space around the A282 Dartford Crossing. A toll both on the tunnels would be absolute chaos - it is bad enough already. Maybe with the newer downstream crossing?I sometimes lend tools out on site and literally nobody brings them back, its just too easy not to, I have to ask for them every time. I had a run-in with DartCharge recently, not myself but my mother who had not paid and then been out of the country for a while. In this case I picked up the letters when it was for the £115 and just before it was escalated, called them up and was advised to fill out the online appeal and leave it. I requested opportunity to pay the £35 on her behalf given this was the first we'd heard of it, not expecting any 'good will'.
Foruntately they are a bit more reasonable that expected, 2 weeks later I had an offer to pay the £2.50 charge as a one-off against the car reg which i promptly did over the phone. I was advised there may be some follow-up that could be ignored, but to contact again should it keep coming, and they send me a written receipt as proof.
Moral is, worth giving it a polite challenge, they seemed really quite lenient and reasonable to me.

I use PAYG and normally do so before leaving home. I didn't for a crossing last month: when I got home in the early hours of the morning I went straight to bed. I then totally forgot that I hadn't paid and by the time I realised my mistake I had missed the deadline. I paid and kept my fingers crossed but no such luck. In due course I got the dreaded letter. Gave them a call and explained the circumstances. They wouldn't budge which was fair enough but were happy to accept another £2.50 with the usual warning 'don't do it again or we won't let you off so lightly'. The good thing is that I can use the first £2.50 which they wouldn't count to pay for my next crossing in that car. It's valid for the next 12 months.
Dart Charge are lot more reasonable than TfL appear to be re the Congestion Charge according to those I know who have had to deal with them.

They are lenient with the first offence. I missed one because my account was empty. The fine letter came through and it said on it that as it was the first offence for this vehicle they would accept a standard payment of £2.50 on the phone or online within xx days.Foruntately they are a bit more reasonable that expected, 2 weeks later I had an offer to pay the £2.50 charge as a one-off against the car reg which i promptly did over the phone.
