If the bad cyclists sorted themselves out and stopped giving them all a bad name maybe other road users would be polite to them without them having to ask. People generally treat you they way you treat them.

Why are you talking about something from 3 years ago, or do a quick search and find the original thread?
It's not something from three years ago, these jackets are still worn all over the place? Why are they still allowed?
Errr..... Just because something is still being done today, doesn't mean it's no longer something from the past!

The first mention of these vests that I've found are from 2013, so just about 4 years ago.

Here's a Pistonheads post from 2015 (so only two years ago): https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... , that uses the exact same picture that you have posted, discusses the exact same thing, and the conclusions were pretty much exactly the same as you're going to get with this thread:

They've not been banned because they are not illegal.

Here's a link to a petition that was sent to then Prime Minister David Cameron to get them banned, that managed to get a whopping 609 people on board: https://www.change.org/p/david-cameron-mp-ban-the-...

The reality is, the Government and the legal authorities are not going to take action against something that fools drivers into driving slower and with more care, especially as it achieves some of their very own goals for free.

You don't like them? - Feel free to start your own petition and see how you get on!

If a motorist momentarily thinks he/she sees a copper and stops driving like a twunt, this is good. The bibs do no harm and may do some good. See also : Polite Notice - No Parking.
If a robber knew he would get a good kicking if he broke into your house would be good also, unfortunately its not allowed.

I don't have a problem with them if it calms the odd person. But you would like to think the wearer was pretty squeaky with their riding, otherwise it is rather hypocritical.

Different thread, but it is allowed if the householder is in fear of attack. As usual, your Daily Mail-sourced world view has nothing to do with reality.

Thank God it is only members of other groups on the road who get a bad name from the actions of a few. I'd hate to think I was tarnished with some of the tttish driving I see on a daily basis.

I would've thought a horse riding a cycle would be enough of a spectacle without the hi viz to draw even more attention to it!

As a biker, Polite vests are worn exclusively by morons.

Same for those who ride panniered Pan euros with high vis stickers.
It's obvious what they are trying to be.

To be fair, 'a good kicking' surely might go beyond the amount of force the law would be happy with..smile

They must be old vests if you’ve seen anyone wearing them recently... they were withdrawn from sale due to the police not liking them

You find that motorists are very considerate when you have 'Police' written on your top when pedal cycling. Amazing how the word refreshes the ability of a person to remember how close they should overtake a pedal cyclist.

A 'householder case' is the only time a person may use more than reasonable force laugh

As usual, mickmcpaddy 0, reality 1.

Because they're not illegal and the police have better things to do. As, I'm sure, do you. Let it go.

If a driver needs to adjust their driving when they see this, they are doing something wrong.
