340i Touring or 440i Grande Coupe?
Discussion
I'm about to order a new 340i Touring or 440i Grande Coupe, I need five doors and 440i would do the job but the 340i is more practical. The quotes I have for the two cars are very similar, the difference isn't enough to be a deciding factor.
Does anyone on here have experience of the two cars to comment on the pro's and con's of the two? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I've had an F30 3 Series saloon and now on a F32 4 Series Coupe.
It's the same car really, the 4 Series you sit marginally lower but the driving experience is 99.9% the same. You won't lose a lot of practicality with the Gran Coupe being a hatch, so go for the one you like the look of the most.
Personally I'd pick the Gran Coupe based on looks.

I have a 340i Touring. As mentioned the practicality is OK but not amazing. There's part of me who wishes I'd held out for the 540 (but timings wouldn't have worked as well).
I'd also have a look at the GT. Looks are subjective but in terms of interior space (especially in the back) it's probably the model of choice in the 3 / 4 series.
I don't know what it's like in the UK but the GT is much rarer here in Switzerland and there seems to be more opportunity for getting a good discount if you can find a dealer model.

If I were to consolidate to 1 car, these would be the sort of cars I'd look at and in terms of access to boot / with back seats down for awkward, heavy items and overall practicality (as opposed to volume of boots for say easy access items such as suitcases) the tourer does all I would need. I've had several on loan, as courtesy cars.
I'd need to be satisfied the GC could do all of this and if you have to haul anything awkward that would be my advice : check this out.
I also think GC has presence , but having seen one week in week out at a company I frequently visited, the looks wore thin and I think normal 4 series coupe looks better so I'd wonder if if I went for it, I'd go off it and see it as a compromised less attractive coupe.
The tourer does look good and is what it is.

5 weeks ago I traded in my 57 plate w204 C220CDI for a 17 plate 440i GrandCoupe M Sport.
I had a look at the 3 series touring and if I was in the market for one I'd say it's not big enough as a load lugger so I'd be looking at a 5 series touring. The 440i GC sits lower - it would as its based on the coupe. I'm expecting to expand my family next year so I decided on the 4 series GrandCoupe (for the hatchback style boot and 4 doors) and not the 4 series coupe.
As for the engine, B58 unit fitted to the car is a beast! Proper Jekyll and Hyde engine! Did a drive between Leeds and Nottingham and averaged 45mpg! City driving can vary between 19-28mpg. I'm happy with those stats as the C Class wouldn't better more than 47mpg on a motorway run.
For me all the diesel talk in the news swayed me back petrol. Now looking at upgrading the sound system and also adding the MPPSK exhaust/kit

45mpg on a motorway run is great news im thinking of going from a 330d to M240i next (diesel nerves) more poweful version of your engine but a lighter car so hopefully get the same sort of mpg......by the way the other day in my 330d 10 miles west london 47 minutes about 14mph average if I recall 28 mpg ,not earth shattering in City traffic...I have heard more than once that the 4 is a better handling car more comfortable than the 3 er
