My sister has a flat roof "extension" like this:

No (or very little) insulation.

The roof needs work and some insulation.

I was thinking adding a lightweight pitched roof would require less future maintenance, and would give room for insulation.

Has anyone had a roof like that fitted - any ideas of price / contractors in the north west?

Cheers.

Rather than put a pitch on it why not convert it to a warm roof and drop a lantern in?

Metrotile or Dekra would be the lightest version, but the roof at the moment is predominantly supported by windows.

You may find any increase in weight will see doors jamming.

Even doing as B17 says may cause the same, but that would be my preffered route if it was achievable.

Yes, it is mainly supported by windows.

Hmmm. I think we just have a historical aversion to flat roofs hence the desire for a pitch.

I've just been reading up on warm roof.

So we can lay insulation on top and then fit a new roof covering?

Whats the best bet for a roof of this size? Someone has tried to sell her a glassfibre roof.

However my sister is willing to spend a bit for max life expectancy.

Drop the ceiling height inside. Batton down to add 100mm kingspan, then plasterboard and reskim.
