Followed home by a road rager
Discussion
I was once followed by a nutjob in an Audi, decided to pull up outside a randomers house and she pulled up beside and started shouting about the state of my driving (I had done nothing wrong, accelerated quickly but didn't even speed)
She told me she was a police officer and she had recorded me on her mobile phone, I burst out laughing and said 'Thats f*****g stupid for a police officer to use a mobile while driving' she then said I was swearing in-front of her kids, she actually had 2 small kids in the car.
I pointed out how stupid she was and she told me to watch my car, its getting set on fire because she knows where I live, I laughed and said I didn't live here and she drove away, got her reg and reported her to the police. Few days later a nice PCSO phoned me to reassure me they had spoken to the cars owner, a male and said his wife matched my description, they had both been warned about road rage, threats and following random people.
never saw the nutcase again

OP, you need to make up your mind as to whether you didn't know they were following you, or you knew but weren't bothered or whether they followed calmly but at a distance or whether they were close enough (and angry enough) that you could see the passenger calming down the driver (in the dark, in your mirrors, while driving).
Whatever the truth (there's no judgement here), I'm pleased nothing has come of it.

I was followed by a road rager once so I ended up parking outside my ex-gf's house where I was confronted by Mr Neanderthal in his VW Polo f'ing and b'ing and much fist shaking before he drove off
Her lounge window had a brick thrown through it the following night, so it was worth it

Similar thing happened to me some years ago. Was in a queue traffic at some lights on a dual carriageway. Was about the fifth car back. Bloke in front of me has an old Jag XJ6. Traffic starts to move and he doesn’t. He just sits there. Assuming he was daydreaming (and not dead) I gave the horn a pip to wake him up. Mental bloke then leaps out of the car in a total rage stormed up to the side of my car and started ranting about having broken down and me being impatient. I suggested that had he put his hazards on then I might have had a chance of knowing what was going on…..
Anyway, by this time the queue in lane two had moved away and I could move out and drive round the old Jag. Just at this point he gets in and it starts…..he then raced up onto my bumper and was flashing and waving something out of the window that looked suspiciously like a hammer. I accelerated away (Mondeo ST220) then, at a gap in the barriers where people could turn right I did what can only be described as a high speed U turn. “No way he’ll make that turn at that speed” I said to myself….only to see him do just that in my mirror, Sweeney style, massive opposite lock, tyre smoke etc
At this point I really did get a move on and lost him after taking some turns at junctions where the lights went against him.
I make a point now of never assuming anything as you never know what nutter you might have to deal with.
Also now drive a distinctive car so not a good idea to p*ss people off on the commute as you can guarantee seeing the same person again (or, more importantly, him seeing you)….

The last thing I would have done is driven home. I’d have kept driving around until I was certain he’d got bored and disappeared then gone home.
The best thing to do is head for a big roundabout, then just keep circling. That way they get the message that you're not going to be followed home. ferrariF50lover said:

You don’t seem to have grasped what happened.
I spoke to him twice, once at the next junction and once at my house.
I didn’t consider that he might be following me because I thought nothing further of it and I could see that after the first “chat” his mate was trying to calm him down.
Normally I would take the hard man approach and pull over to confront them before getting anywhere near my house. Usually, this works, once they know you are not afraid they back down.
I don't know what people like this are thinking, begging for a fight and then st themselves when it looks like one might happen.
A few months ago, I broke my back. So won't be risking getting pushed or punched for a while. Driving up to a police station sounds the best option. Followed by booting it away from them (if you have a capable car).
Once you have led them home, the only thing you can do is protect your home with CCTV and a baseball bat, if you are so inclined.
As you are clearly not afraid of them, perhaps a PIR sensor wired up to a buzzer inside the house for a bit would help? Make a note of all time, dates and car registrations in case anything happens.
If you really are that bothered and want to head it off at the path. you can lie in wait near to where the incident happened, at the same time of day and see if they come past again. Then follow THEM home.
When they lead you to THEIR front door, get out and approach. Being as unconfrontational and loud as possible. Make sure they know you are "so so very sorry" that you might have offended them and that you hope there won't be any further retaliation... "wink wink".

Would you bother trying to do anything with the police as they could theoretically show I had done nothing wrong or just save the footage in case something happens (I realise it won't prove anything hence considering the proactive approach).
Cheers.
I think you should put the experience behind you and move on. Burn the footage to CD and store it in a safe place just in case, then put the camera back in the car and get on with your life. By the sounds of it, he's the one with the problem. Cheers.
The police have enough to do and the camera could have caught you doing something wrong (inadvertently of course).

When they get out to confront you... wait until they're half way there and floor it. Even a Diesel Mondeo should be able to get enough distance to get away before the scrote gets back to their vehicle. The satisfaction of them seeing them in the rear view mirror shaking their fists ineffectually at me would be much more satisfying... although I'm reasonably confident I could beat someone larger than me, wisdom tells me that I shouldn't (1. even if I'm not an aggressor, I could still be charged, 2. even though I'm better trained, he could get lucky).

I only came for the five minute argument, not the full half-hour, so, despite the tale still not really making sense, I'll take the chance to wish you well a final time. You don’t seem to have grasped what happened.

I don’t need it to make sense, I only wanted advice on whether it was worth proactively contacting the police for any reason at all.Of course the full autopsy has to happen.
Thank you for your well wishes though.
