Mate of mine just rang telling me his leasehold flat has a new CCTV sytem in the entrance hall, it also covers his front door and into the flat when the door is opened.

he is worried about loss of privacy, as in someone else is watching the movements in and out,

is it legal?

Unless it's something illegal or immoral it sounds like your 'friend' is paranoid. Maybe you could ask him who he thinks would pay to monitor his and his guests movements 24/7, and to what end?

Surely he was consulted/informed by the management company that this was going to happen? Is there a load of crime occurring? I'd be concerned who is monitoring the feed.

As soon as he is outside you will probably find CCTV watching his moves anyway.

I think its a good idea, it will/may reduce any crime.

PS tell your mate to where a balaclava in and out of flat :P

I am glad that there was no CCTV in the front hall when I was dating that Sloaney girl with the flat in Pimlico back in 1994. I'm just saying.

I think he is more worried about "getting lucky" and someone telling his wife,

its a weekend/holiday flat.

Bad: coming home and finding your kids watching porn.

Worse: you're in it.

When I saw the title "Common Areas" I thought this might be a contender for the 'Council' thread
but now I see you mean Communal.

Who? Who does he think will tell his wife? Does his wife's family come from a long line of cctv operators?
