I was driving at 2 am last night doing 77 on the M1 at Sheffield at I saw the cameras go off as I drove through the gantry. There was no speed limit posted and Another car was doing the same speed at the time on my right hand side.
Unsure whether I'm going to be fined or if it will wavered?
I'll update in two weeks time.
Is 77mph on speedo fine on M and A roads? Unsure whether I'm going to be fined or if it will wavered?

Is it possible to increase speed between gantries without camera fines? At least when traffic is nil.
I always lock my cruise control to 79 MPH in a 70 limit. Never had a problem through any cameras. I may be able to push this higher, but I don’t like the penalty fo getting it wrong!

If they are not average speed cameras, yes! Be aware that te new cameras have an extremely long range though.!
The prosecution guidelines for average speed cameras are the same as any other camera, so for motorway or nsl dual carriageway (in a car) up to a true 78 okEdit to say also range is irrelevant we are not talking about camera vans or hand held devices

There are lot of gantries, and I suppose not all have cameras. Is it that, one must know which ones have camera? So that we can accelerate in between cams.
What is the average distance between gantries? And, is it practical to regulate speeds between gantries?
I am asking because lot of concentration is taken to maintain at 70, and unable to concentrate on road ahead. In my view, 70 is very less limit and fast drivers react better. And speed limit is ridiculous when you are the only 1 on that road at that time. Even the 30mph zones in some areas with long straights. Guess, for 30mph cams we can accelerate after passing that cam.
I have seen cars going faster than me when I was at 80. Are they taking a chance? Once I even followed them, but no flashes. It's confusing to understand the camera system in UK.
I wonder why did I buy a 6 cylinder 272 bhp petrol car.

Why would it require a lot of concentration, or indeed any concentration, to drive at 70? Why would it require less concentration to drive at, say, 80 or 90? If you don’t have a pretty good idea of your speed without looking down then I’d suggest you need more tuition. What is the average distance between gantries? Irregardless it doesn’t really require that much concentration because even if you went past one at like 75 (in a NSL) you’re not going to get flashed. Surely it doesn’t take much effort to maintain a speed with +/- 5 mph or more margin.
