He has the car and by the pics it looks fine. Might need some work but what does he expect for a stupidly low price - that could easily be worth 3x what he paid.
And at least its not an imaginary car.
Well we’ve yet to see the custard test - it’s all purely on his word so far

Host them on another site, such as flickr. The youll need the coding here to point to the link. On a reply, see "formatting help"

The lack of interior pictures put me off the advert straight away. I did the same with a Landy I owned 20 years ago, bought it unseen and had it delivered. Never been so disappointed when I saw it, sold it for what I paid luckily and an USAF guy exported it to the USA fully restored. Probably worth 40 grand over there, I sold it for a grand.

Just wow... Speechless.
I can't imagine what made you want to push ahead with buying a very complicated car at a VERY cheap price, bearing in mind all of the above.

I do hope that this doesn't make you give up on cars, but perhaps in this instance your 'ambition' outweighed your wallet/ability.

Foolishly by the time the lorry turned up I'd already paid. Besides not lorry drivers fault to be suspicious, he's just told what and where.

Downloading pics as we speak, as I say my nightmare might be somebody elses no dramas.

Ok try to rationalise. You may have been done. Thats unlucky.

But you have a lotus esprit turbo. A desirable car in anyones book. And at the moment, here and now, yes you have probably overspent. But you have one in your garage. I dont.

So take a longview. Its a rolling restoration. A bit here and there, use it and restore it. Youll enjoy it.

Was I mad to spend nearly £17,000 on an Aston DBS V8 12 years ago?? Unreliable, expensive to run, needs work, right at the top of their value etc etc..

Or the other guy on here with the cheap 456Gt. So what if you paid more for it? Give it 5 years, he might be heartbroken

Give it a good clean , get used to if, drive it a bit, fall for it.
OP. THIS ^^^^^^^

You ain't getting your money back. You have been a bit naive and have been dealt a bad hand.

But, you have the car, you could have ended up with nothing. Look forward to making the car right, and it will do nothing but go up in value, it seems every car does. (unless its in my ownership)

Good luck with the car, and I hope you enjoy it and look back at your purchase as an amusing anecdote.

Being honest, a really cheap car on eBay with no number plate showing in the advert would have had me running a mile before I even read the description...

OP ok the deal wasn’t as described but you have a lovely car there once you’ve sorted it. Start working out what it will cost to restore and get on it! They’re really eye catching beautiful cars, just accept its a project and get moving.

If it was a Cerbera £11-12k gets you a project car likely not working or not with all he bits. So your £3k up on that ish and it’s a lovely car.

Price might be higher than what you’d have liked but hey id wager a 944 and a mars bar you’ll make a decent return on it/really enjoy the challenge and Male a return

I bet that's making the OP feel a bit better.

Yep, don't worry OP you could have bought a crap Cerbera and spent another £3k. But he didn't hehe

You could win WB's 944 and a mars bar in a bet if you spend loads on it and sell at a profit. Enjoy the mars bar hehe

Seriously, why did you not just go and see it. A flight can be £80 return, say £150 all in. You'd have got that back 3 times over if you'd have seen it and offered a proper price.

The ad is st, just looks all wrong. I am not sure where you stand regarding Irsih Law, but ebay motors bids are non binding. But sounds like you did it all outside ebay, and as for transfering to his son's account, WTF. Did they not accept Western Union to Nigeria?

All of that.

Why on earth did you not just go and see it?

I have never in my life bought a car without seeing it, and I don't intend to start anytime soon.

I'll happily get up at 4am and drive 300 miles to go and see a car before considering handing any money over.

At least it's a car worth restoring rather than the £500 worth of scrap you'd be left with if similar had happened buying a knackered modern Audi/BMW etc.

I would agree with this, if the OP sold it as a rolling restoration project he would easily get £7K.

A couple of weeks TLC and a few hundred quid spent on the worst bits would perhaps increase that to £10K i.e. most of his money back.

Still unsure whether or not this whole thread is a wind-up TBH, a decent Esprit is a minimum of £25K nowadays.

£9K will buy you something similar to what the OP has.
