Slightly weird one this, friends daughter has a black box from ins co on her Mini as a learner. She received a warning for excess speed in a 30 limit, except it isn't or appears not to anything else either.

Interestingly Waze does not list any limit on this section of road just a blank limit sign unlike the A30 to the north is definitely NSL, there are no streetlights & no limit signs or change to NSL at any end on this section so one would assume NSL.

There is something weird going on it's this bit of road, any ideas??

We got trackers at work.

Got sent emails saying I was doing 50 in 30 etc. Anyway long and short of, it it was picking up side streets and thinking I was on them.

Could be something like that ?

There are no 30 limits anywhere nearby, well maybe a mile away. Its also an unnamed road.

The main issue is 3 hits & they cancel your insurance!

Tell her to dispute it with the insurance company. Tell them they’re wrong: she wasn’t exceeding the speed limit: ask them to confirm their error in writing and to correct their mapping/speed limit records.

That will have a much more immediate effect than asking for advice on PH.

Exactly this:- It may help your cause if you have your own GPS speed tracking, Such as via a dashcam. I'd certainly reccomend it if they are being uppity with nonexistent speed limits - Even if this is the last warning recieved, it will still have a fairly hefty negative impact on your renewal price with the box co; Usually the cheapest insurer after a year of "good history" by far, by proxy increasing the next year's premium, unless you manage to get it scrubbed from the record now.

OP, I'd suggest your friend's daughter asked her insurers to provide evidence of the speed limit on that stretch of road - and ask them to record the call for training purposes!

Friends daughter was picked up three times for doing over 55mph on a 50mph road. The road is NSL and clearly marked as such. Her dad rang the insurance company and gave all the details and they came back to him after a while, confirmed their system had been showing the wrong speed and adjusted their system accordingly.

I know that road well. Nearest 30 limit is Henstridge, a good mile to the West.

Yes, tell the InsCo, they do get it wrong. Friend's son was pinged for 50-odd in a 40, turned out that it was on a road where part of it had been changed from NSL to 40 and their database had changed the whole road to 40.
