Powers stopped doing a Turbo???
Discussion
Just out of interest, has powers given up on their turbo conversions? They're off the web site and I was told a good while ago by someone in the TVR world that they'd decided against them that they had stopped, but as they still appeared on the site for many months after that conversation I just assumed it was incorrect, but being as they not advertising anymore I'm just curious if it's true?
I know the turbo conversion TVR Power were selling cost more than compared to the TorqueV8 ( Eann Whalley) version and most conversions I have seen appear to be the TorqueV8 version so I wonder if price has been the main reason for purchase.
I also know that Powers (probably rightly for a professional comapny ) refused to install their turbo on an engine that had travelled over 70,000 miles. That may have also influenced some purchasers.
My turbo conversion is a powers kit that I brought new through a third party that no longer wanted it. It went on my 125000 mile engine with no issue so far. At a cost of £22 per hp it was good value in my book.

Yes, Powers have stopped making them. My understanding is that the company is concerned about the legal implications if an inexperienced driver boots it, loses control and does some damage. I can understand this as booting it on a corner and hitting 3,000rpm means you will go off. After mine was done and set up, Dom road tested it and sent a very brief email which said, 'its one monster of a car'.While it produced 355 bhp, it also produced 481 ft/lbs of torque, at the wheels. It was a monster and not for everyone. The new owner loves it though

When I spoke to Dom about the same thing, this is what he implied..(may have been your car he was referring to).. namely it was dangerous, and he didn't want to see someone killed. Which I understand, and found Dom, and all his team professional and straight up.

You have to drive within your ability and that of the road conditions. I have a vast amount of power 580lb/ft and as yet have not had a 'moment'
I believe Mac had over 600 and to my knowlege was ok
610lb/ft. It could easily get out of shape if not careful as Baz says drive with respect and within given limits. I did however find it much better after fitting a three stage adjustable boost via steering wheel buttons. (6, 14, 19 psi) Fookin' epic I believe Mac had over 600 and to my knowlege was ok

The turbo kit looks very good value for money though, almost half the price of the s/c kits.
Be interested to know if someone runs the standard turbo kit on the standard management system.
I've mapped plenty, the lucas copes at low boost fairly well, the only issues come when people start upping the boost then the limitations of the lucas and dizzy become more of an issue.Be interested to know if someone runs the standard turbo kit on the standard management system.
I should ask Eann what he'd sell a basic kit of parts for .. a simple kit installed with no intercooler or dump valve, mapped on the std lucas and dizzy at say 3 or 4 psi of boost would be a really cost effective to add some extra oomph.
