New Porsche Panamera GTS announced

Harry and Meghan aren't the only ones whose family is growing this week...

Porsche's line-up of GTS badged cars has often proven to be something of a sweet spot in its ever expanding range. Offering a nigh on perfect blend of elevated performance, everyday usability and enhanced visual appeal, the GTS models seem to combine all the best bits of Porsche's catalogue into one greatest hits package.

Even within this subsection of the manufacturer's output, though, there's already a great deal of choice. The 911 GTS alone is available in coupe, cabriolet and targa, with rear- or all-wheel drive and the option of a manual or PDK transmission. Then there are the Cayman and Boxster GTSes as well, and there was even a Macan - although the GTS treatment hasn't made it to the new iteration just yet.

It hadn't yet made it to the current Panamera either, until today that is, with Porsche announcing new Panamera GTS and Panamera GTS Sport Turismo models. Power comes from a de-tuned version of the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 already found in the Panamera Turbo, here producing 460hp and 457lb ft of torque. Sent to all four wheels via Porsche's eight-speed PDK transmission, it enables both the Panamera GTS and Panamera GTS Sport Turismo to hit 62mph in just 4.1 seconds before going on to a top speed of 181mph.

Elsewhere, ride height is reduced by 10mm, with PASM included on all GTS models, while three-chamber air suspension and larger brake discs help to keep everything under control. Black trim front and rear, 20-inch Panamera Design wheels, a sports exhaust and a smattering of GTS badges identify the model externally, while inside swathes of Alcantara, a multifunction sports steering wheel and, for the first time in any Panamera, a head-up display give occupants a sense of the car's greater sporting intent.

Pricing is set to start at £105,963 for the Panamera GTS and £108,110 for the Panamera GTS Sport Turismo, with options such as four-wheel steering waiting in the wings to take things higher still. Should that seem a little too lofty, the previous generation is suddenly looking very good value indeed...

So could you just remap this up to (or even above) Turbo power levels for substantially less than the added cost of a Turbo?

Or an E63S... don't see the appeal of the Panamera at that price.

As mentioned above, seems a crazy price.

I read the article thinking this could be the sweetspot of the range (especially as it could be re-tuned to closer to Turbo levels).....but then you see it is pegged at £10k more than the 600bhp M5/E63s, but 150bhp down?

Thats a lot of premium over a couple of cars that are already criticised for being too expensive.

....although it does make an M5/E63s suddenly look like great value in man-maths calculations wink

That green looks lovely. Reminds me of my dad's old Mk1 Escort 1300XL estate in that shade.

It’s a lot of money compared to the M5/E63s but then again this is a Porsche that starts at 70 odd grand opposed to E220d’s being available to lease for 300 quid a month and 520d’s being 35 grand after a discount.

On paper it’s seems like they’re similar but I think, the natural competitiors will be the AMG GT53 and the upcoming M850i GC, both probably starting at the same price with similar performance

the problem with comparing it to anything from Merc and BMW now is image, i have yet to see or experience a Panamera driver piloting the car like a total tool. They are out there no doubt and i have seen a few with questionable styling choices but people will keep ignoring cheaper alternatives until the situation with those badges changes. The one car that does not suffer as much is the M5 but that’s on the past basis that they were company exec cars, with the recent price rises and tax changes i am not sure it can hold that buyer cache anymore.

And as a 5-seater, a good 200kg+ lighter.

I like the general idea of the GTS but would like the Panamera to be a bit more sportscar and a bit less limousine. Say rwd only, V6 460hp and some really light wide 19", carbon propshaft, bit less sound deadening, not too much options for a 1800kg kerb ST. That would be a proper GTS enthusiast version...

No.....but do you think this will be an inferior drive to an M5 or E63s?

That's very red! Are you able to spec your wheels in the same colour of the car or did you get that done aftermarket? Would love a sky blue one with wheels the same colour!

I've not driven the latest gen Panamera, but that the last generation, whilst very good, was not a league ahead of my old 6-series.

cloud9

The one thing about Panamera's is the way such a big car feels so small & nimble. Love mine, 550bhp also, drive like a hooligan or drive like a chauffeur.

I'd like to see a back to back comparison of an E63s Estate and the Turismo GTS.

According to Autocar, most customers spec their E63's close to £100k anyway, the GTS already has most of the important options included in its £108k price, so they're actually pretty close.

I'd happily take either but I suspect if I were in a position to spend £100k on an everyday car, I wouldnt have much trouble finding an extra £8k for the Porsche.

All factory spec. All chrome parts done in black, debadged.
