Hit and run - cyclist knocked down
Discussion
Hello SPL,
Our housemate was taken off her bike this evening in East London. She was turning left from a crossroads and was hit head on by a car turning right into her road and cutting the corner. He sped off and she was helped by some bystanders before we came to pick her up. Unfortunately she was pretty shaken up and didn’t want to call the police at the time, also in the confusion forgot to take the details of her witnesses.
There’s plenty of CCTV overlooking the crossroads, hopefully the witnesses also report it. Are there any steps we can take (putting in a report now) and can the police do anything with it?

Yep. Definitely inform the police
Done, gave 101 a call and they advised what to do. She took a turn for the worst last night, felt sick and dizzy so went to A+E fearing concussion.Type R Tom said:
Where about in East London?
Stratford, in one of the new developments by the Olympic park. Right here in fact, she was turning left and the car crossed into her lane as it turned right knocking her to the pavement.chow pan toon said:
I'd expect to be compensated for damage to my bike wouldn't you?
Also loss of earnings as she's self-employed, a little bit extra for the inconvenience of being run over by some stbag is never amiss. But let's not let all of that get in the way of stinkyspanner's willy waving.
It's not willy waving you cretin. When it happened to me it hurt a lot, my bike got bent in half, and I felt pretty upset. As much as I wanted a bit of sympathy and attention it was pretty clear that there was no significant harm done, no-one was really interested as I could still walk so I put it down to experience. Much to my disappointment I still made it to school albeit a bit late, and as stated got on with my life.
In short, tough luck.

For some people, being hurt and having their bike bent in half is significant harm done. I'm so glad you're not one of them!In short, tough luck.
