I purchased a used skoda fabia mk2 last week from the Trade car outlet (part of the dealer DM Keith) in Ossett last week.

Today was the first time I drove in the dark and spotted that the rev counter and odometer needles don't illuminate. It's really quite difficult to see what speed I'm doing.

I contacted trade car outlet and agreed to take the car in on Wednesday. I wanted to know if they have to fix it or am I going to have a battle on my hands? Although minor in itself its quote serious given how difficult it is to see the speed. Its the maxidot instrument panel for info.

Thanks

Could be something as simple as a 5p fuse....have you checked it?

I know the Mk1 did but does the Mk2 have dim-able interior lights/gauges, have you checked its set correctly/to your tastes if so?

Is it just me or is a fair bit of the OP's post just groups of meaningless symbols?

It's not just you.

Probably an i-phone thing.
(as in, the OP is using an i-phone to send his message)

Quoting sorts out some of the formatting

iPhone emojis. Forum software can't recognise them.

I do wish people wouldn't use them.

Sorry I've corrected the opening post! Caused by copy and paste not emojis.

Thanks for the reply. I have done a little research and the instrument display is all one sealed unit which a dealer would charge upto £1k to fix according to to some. That's why I'm concerned ie the cost of any possible repair!

You're completely and utterly sure the dash brightness hasn't been turned down to minimum?

Yeah, there's no option on the maxidot and everything else is lit up like Blackpool illuminations!

The option isn’t in the computer it will be a scroll wheel near the headlight switch

Instrument brightness controlled by edge-on rotary knob low down on dash to right of steering wheel?

biggrin Reminds me of the time my wifi on the laptop broke and nothing could fix it - thank you dell for that bell end location for the button.

OP, assuming you have the option to dim the dash and it isn't set to Stevie Wonder levels of illumination as you just purchased the car and the lighting of the instrument cluster is an MOT requirement, there should be no issue in getting it fixed for free.

It won't be enough to reject the car but it is enough for them to fix it, could simply be the bulbs gone.
