So, for the first time in many years an NIP has arrived. Camera Van has clocked me speeding in a rural 60 zone in Scotland.

I recall seeing the van, with it's camera facing the same direction was I was travelling, so I was driving away from it so to speak.

No greetin', it's a hands up job, but it's news to me that Camera Vans could get you going opposite direction from they are facing. When did that happen?

I clearly need some education on the subject, cheers.

Fairly sure they have always been able to detect speeding in both directions.

Yep, got done at the end of last year (first points since I got my licence 22 years prior) I saw the van, which was on the other side and assumed it was only monitoring that side; I was wrong, 3 points and a £100 fine, no option of a course!

England if it makes a difference.

Those side cameras aren't for speed measurement; they're to allow the operator to see if anyone is approaching the van for a quiet word. Probably the same for the front camera. Laser speed cameras don't work well through a car window; too much refraction of the laser beam. Thus the open doors/hatch.

no but they could be used to aid identification, say decals on a bike or leathers
