I got one of these a couple of weeks ago. It related to me driving in the zone. The event happened on 6th June. It was my car & i was driving.

However, it was a brand new car delivered on 24th May to be used for work & as soon as I agreed my selection of registration number with the dealer I registered the car with TFL, DART, RINGGO etc.

I have had a TFL account for a couple of years with monthly charging. I go in the zone about 2 - 3 times a month.

The TFL website did not recognise the new reg No. to enable me to add the new car, so I called TFL & spoke to their customer services lady. Seems she added the car details to my account but did not record it to on the monthly billing account.

I appealed to TFL on line citing their admin error as grounds for appeal but have had no response. Equally I have had no further NIP’s.

Any thoughts on this, or anyone experienced similar circumstances?

Well, it sounds fairly cut and dry to me - you informed them of the reg. What happens next is down to them, not you. I'm not familiar with the law, but I don't see any reasonable court upholding that charge.

I got a response, letter dated 15th August, the last day of the 14 in which they are supposed to reply, but not received until after 20th (which is the day I went on holiday) so I reckon that's faked. That gave me 14 days to provide evidence, which was all stated in the email representation anyway, that expired before I return from holiday !!

Their letter stated that once the car had been recorded on their database then I had to go on the TFL website & opt in to the congestion zone AutoPay. Needless to say there was no mention of that when I initially spoke to them.

Like so many government departments these days they are duplicitous in their dealings with the public.

I therefore opted to pay the £67.50 fine.
