edinburgh airport- drop off fine
Discussion
strange one, I’ve just received through the door a fine/ notice to charge me £100 for ‘picking up in the drop off area’.
this area is a drive up/ pop coins in the gate to get out at the other side, and I paid £2 to drive through this area.
I have never noticed that their is a separate ‘pick up point’ and have always used this area and paid to use it.
Is this enforceable?? do i pay the discounted £60 fine and be done?? please bare in mind this is in scotland and I know rules/ laws are different in england/ wales.

they have photographic evidence of who was driving. they may look suspiciously like the the registered keeper.......
my biggest concern is- i genuinely didn’t know i had done anything wrong! i went in to what i believed was the pick up/ drop off area, paid my £2 and drove off. this was back in june and it only popped through the door today.
i’m also reluctant to pay because i know i have been to the airport another 2 times since! if i even thought i’d chanced something or taken a risk i’d say- fair cop. but i honestly didn’t have a clue i’d done anything wrong

Punchy response! I’ve had the family pick me up dozens of times in the drop-off area because the pick-up zone is punishingly expensive if you overstay your welcome.
I pass through the place weekly, normally in my own car, so would probably write a nice letter begging forgiveness. Presumably nothing to lose if you were to do this? Apologise and say you didn’t realise maybe?
Good luck!

Is this like the privately run car parks where they send you an invoice but it is in their court to prove loss of income as a result of you carrying out your actions?
Out of interest - how long were you stopped for?
Call me brave, but I wouldn't be paying that if I was only stopped for a few moments.

I would probably pay it to avoid the hassle.
If you want info on not paying for it, then I would join mse and ask your question in there. They also have templates for sending letters and will probably have an up to date page advising.
They also give details of how to park for free when dropping off and picking up.

the airport has a ‘drop off’ point, where you drive through and they charge £2 for 5mins. you drive up to the barrier and stick £2 in the bucket/ machine and the barrier goes up and you drove off. I did this, like i have done numerous times. £2 is a bit of a pain, and it went up from £1 a couple of years ago. Edited by Steven_RW on Wednesday 4th December 21:34
turns out back in june they have created a separate ‘pick up’ zone, round the other side of this area where you now have to pay £4 to pick someone up!
i paid the airport for less than 5mins in the drive thru ‘drop off’, but now 6 months later they’ve decided to tell me i didn’t use the correct area and should’ve paid £4 at the time, but now i owe £100!
definitely phoning the airport parking tomorrow to see what they think my chances of appeal are, considering i may have another 2 on the way

Not here but I got one from a hotel car park 2 years ago. I had paid at the reception because the machine wasn’t working got proof and emails from the hotel.
Parking company refused to accept it and still keeps threatening court. I say bring it on. If you paid and have the proof you have nothing to worry about.

they’re not disputing i paid (you can’t get out the barrier if you don’t pay!) Parking company refused to accept it and still keeps threatening court. I say bring it on. If you paid and have the proof you have nothing to worry about.
they reviewed the cctv footage to say i picked someone up in an area i can only drop people off!
