Le Mans Virgins!
Discussion
My first Le Mans this year, beyond excited! Three 25 y/o's arriving midday Wednesday & staying at BSJ. Can anyone tell me the best things to do/see in the run up to the race? I know i wont be able to see it all but want to be able to pick and choose. Also any advice for BSJ? Ive read the horror stories but im not too bothered about them as the good appears to outweigh them. Also please use this thread to spout pretty much anything related to going to Le Mans. Thanks in advance!

Lock valuables out of sight when you are away from the campsite. Trust nobody. Look out for pick pockets in crowds.
Go to the museum by the track.
Take the tram into the centre of Le Mans Friday late afternoon and watch some of the drivers parade (if that's your thing) or just have a few beers.
Watch as much of the qualifying as you can - you can access the grandstands free for paractice/qualifying
Take VERY comfortable shoes for walking - you will do a lot of it.
Above all, do as much or as little as you want, because there's always next year. And the year after, and after that...
I'm going for the 16th year on the trot.

BSJ public site? Then definitely lock everything away.
You are close to Porsche curves so this is going to be a great spot for you to watch the race. Super quick to get there from BSJ.
Make sure you get into Le Mans town. Friday is a good day to do it. Great atmosphere. Really easy to get to using the tram.
Have you got grandstand tickets? If not find a good spot early on for the start and finish.
Get the free bus around to Mulsanne and Arnage. Don’t leave that late on Sunday unless you plan to watch the end of the race from that spot.
Make sure you get to all the corners. You can walk the track from Karting to Tetre Rouge.

See Arnage and Mulsanne at night.
Take bikes if you can.
If you are staying on sunday night beware of thieves (beware all the time, but more on sunday).
Watch your speed on the way down.
Buy a toll tag, but avoid the autoroute if you can.
Stickers are entertaining.
If you have time on friday try and get to the classic british welcome then back to the other car show on the mulsanne corner.
If you forget camping stuff don't worry there is a decathlon on the mulsanne straight.
Town on friday night is rammed, if you get out of the main square it gets easier to find somewhere to eat.
Take plenty of bog roll.
If you have a slightly wide car and alloys get the high train across the tunnel.
Karting is great fun and not expensive.
Don't worry if you miss stuff, you will be back next year, and the year after....etc.

Really don't bother. A load of nasal socks and sandal wearers discussing the output flange on a '68 Morgan. Take bikes if you can.

It's a waste of most of the day travelling there and back.

….. but i do have 19" alloys and low profile tyres, will this be a problem?
Only with the fashion police!St Saturnin is awkward to get to, and there are now car events some of the nearer villages - Ruadin, Mulsanne and Arnage, whose bars and cafes are worth a visit.
Do have a good wander around - get as far as Tetre Rouge and Maison Blanche

haha, that is a fair point. Never seems to take us long to get there and back but we tend to go quite early, have a quick look round then head back to Mulsanne. It's a waste of most of the day travelling there and back.
I think the Output flange would be hand crafted from a 200 year old piece of ash, or perhaps willow.

We always have the red sausage at Arnage at around 1:00am. Touching wood etc we have always been ok.GTD1000 said:
Any recommendations for places to stop on the way down? We are getting the 6:25 crossing so plenty of time, gathered we may as well spend as much time there as possible instead of waiting around to set off
Hotel Au Normandy in Seés, just north of Alencon, regular stop off for many Le Mans goers. Normally some great cars, the food is good value and excellent and the patron always very welcomingdavidd said:
