Airport Transfer Dubai & Bangkok

Hi all, me and the wife going to Dubai for the 1st time and wanted to know is it cheaper to book transfer to hotel before hand or to just get a taxi, and would it be the same for Bangkok. Is there any public transport options - metro in Bangkok and Dubai Metro, does anyone have any experience.

Going on the 25/01 to Dubai staying at the Hilton Dubai Jumeirah.
Getting to Bangkok on the 30/01 and staying at the Shangri-La Hotel

The Shangri La is on the BTS (metro) but with 3 changes. Personally, I’d get a cab/Uber.

we booked a transfer through trailfinders when staying at the Eastin Sathorn in Bangkok, its not that far from where you are staying.

Are you going with a load of cases ? reason I ask is that it would be relatively easy to get a train from the airport then skip on to the skytrain and then head for BTS Saphan change train at Siam in downtown Bangkok. very easy to navigate the transport system in Bangkok and of course it is much much better than being driven in a taxi or a limo in what is grid locked most of the time.

My wife daughter and I spent this Christmas in Bangkok and really enjoyed ourselves. its a good city and lots to see and do. The food is brilliant, and so much to see. We had thought the city would not have enough to keep us busy for 10 days but it did, and it saved another trip to a beach someplace. we did that back in 2005, and Phuket was enjoyable, but the city well it was brilliant.

Shopping MBK is near the Siam station, its a place to be believed, and you can haggle.. have fun with that. there are many shopping areas all through Bangkok and we went to a few. those places though can be a little too much like here, your usual western franchise outlets and tons of 7-11's. where I enjoyed the most was the proper markets look up night markets and see where they are and get along to them, sample the street food, that's worth doing and the range of tastes is something else.

There can be a seedy side of bangers but if you stay away from the obvious areas then you can enjoy a vibrant city with a great atmosphere, its safe and fun to explore.

If you are departing Bangkok airport during the rush hour, I would be incline to use the train as it will be quicker (and save you a few quid if that's important to you). Otherwise, I would use the cab outside for convenience. Go to the booking desk (you can't miss it), then jump in the next available cab, and make sure it's on the meter.

Dubai just get a regular taxi from the airport. They are plentiful, perfectly ok and ok priced. If you want a bit posher, when you get to the taxi queue ask the dude at the front for "Lexus taxi" and you get a slightly nicer car, at not too much more. Uber works as well (Uber X is the same cars at the Lexus taxi).

Hotel transfer will be ridiculous cost, and don't go thinking the MRT+tram is an option as it'll take an age to get to JBR.

AOT limos are the best option out of BKK imho.

Costs about 50£ in a nice 7 series Limo. As long as you aren't going through rush hour it won't take too long.

Those airport taxis are just awful.

Sky train just seems a lot of faff if you just want life to be easy.

(I say this as someone who visits BKK at least 6 times per year)

We have used suntransfers.com at various airports,it includes meet and greet and return, very good service. Dubai should cost 50 Euros for a normal taxi.

I got a Tesla last year, but it was at T2.

But as said, taxis are pretty cheap in Dubai, not worth messing around with the Metro.

Stayed at both, used the hotel to book transfers, no regrets. Was especially pleased that we booked for Bangkok as it is a crazy place.

Be aware of the wine prices at the Shangri-La in Bangkok at all times and always check the itemised bills before signing.

check receipts anywhere you go in Bangkok....

and watch taxis, make sure they turn on the meter, the tuk tuks are great but everyone is out to dip your wallet.... ;-)

That's why I always book and pay a return taxi transfer online before I fly. No haggling,no rip off,Just give the guy a couple of quid tip.

We use the taxis outside the arrivals hall in Bangkok. Ignore the vendors trying to sell you an overpriced ride in the airport and go to the official taxi rank just outside the building. It should cost 200-400 THB to get to your hotel. The train alternative is not so good if you have luggage as you still need to get a taxi from the station in the centre to your hotel and isn't worth the hassle, especially in the Bangkok heat after a long flight.
