he 90+ thousand criminals in prison would probably disagree with that.

I always wonder if people who write such rubbish ever think about the things they say / write.
Whilst not the fault of the officers on the ground, our police are currently either unable or unwilling to remove people illegally blocking a public highway, so it's no wonder public confidence is so low.
Data / evidence / source? So low measured how? Relative to what?

Or are you presenting your opinion as fact?

No data there, the confidence conclusion doesn't appear in the summary or the conclusions of the report.
There is data here,

As above.

You should have read the material rather than relying (hoping?) the headlines had some evidence to support them.

Do you think the Cambridge police read those reports and think "Yep, we're doing ok here."?

More likely to read these ones: https://www.justiceinspectorates.gov.uk/hmicfrs/pe...

Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if they think they've been doing a great job recently. Complete detachment from reality - as is often the case. But it's ok, they've got a pdf that says all is going well.

The Inspections are very critical when it’s justified to be so.

Perhaps it’s you who doesn’t understand the ‘business’ of policing.

I expect that’s more likely.

My local force has 93 priorities in their 2017-2021 Police and crime plan and not one of them relates to dealing with vehicle crime.

Explains everything (at least in my neck of the woods)

Doesn’t the locally elected police commissioner decide police priorities? If vehicle crime is a low priority and is of importance to you then use your vote to get things changed but I’ll be betting most don’t have a clue who their commissioner is or that they vote for them.

Although the actual point or value of police commissioners is probably for another thread.

I've no doubt you think that's the correct answer.

I certainly trust the judgement of the people whose job is it to inspect and rate over yours.

Very little mention in this thread so far of the role that other parts of the justice system, besides the Police, play in failing to bring criminals to book, so I'll take the opportunity to give the Secret Barrister's excellent blog a timely plug:
