I got an update through for my V5C last week. I probably sent it out 2 months ago?

After reading this thread just this morning, I received 2 letters from the DVLA advising me that they'll be processing my V5 applications on the 9th of July. Not sure why they sent me a letter regarding that but at least I know it's in hand.

I bought a car last Sunday evening. I received an email from DVLA telling me that I am the new keeper on Monday morning. Perhaps I am very lucky, but I have not once in thirty years had a single problem with DVLA. The worst thing that ever happened was that it took 3 weeks to send a new V5.

Traded a car today, received 2 emails when I got home showing I am no longer the keeper and that I should expect the new V5C soon for the new car. Normally 3-5 days. Online is brilliant, with posting it was heavily dependent on using the correct postcode. Like BV72 I have had minimal issues with DVLA during my ownership of over 50 cars in just over 40 years.

I've been trying to tell the DVLA that I no longer own a scrapped vehicle that I'm paying tax on (yearly direct debit, sent off the log book to Copart). The DVLA dont' recognise the document number I have, so there's been a new log book applied for I think. Rang them up but didn't get through.

So if anyone has a number to get through to a right department I'd appreciate it.

We sent a logbook off a week before I saw agt's post, when I saw it I used the photo I took of the V5 before I sent it away to do it online instead, did you scan it or take a photo before you sent it by any chance?
Unfortunately not. We recently got married too, so she waited until we moved to get the name change in as well.

At the moment you can only change address details online, not the name, which is a shame.

Should've done it with my V5C though ... But I'm in no rush for mine to come back.

The automated stuff works fine - it's the antiquated procedure where they have to manually key stuff that's broken.

I have asked them for clarification of what we do if it's not back in time as they're still quoting 4 weeks on their website, and we'll be giving them at least 10 ... I've asked if we can just invoice them for any costs for them not meeting their advertised timescales. Obviously no reply smile

There's got to be a lot of people out there who've sold cars which are now due to be taxed, and therefore recieving fines etc, or have moved / taking plates off and need to return PCPs / HPs and could be paying out for returning them without a V5c. Can imagine there'll be a fair bit of backlash coming very soon.

That's not a Union Jack. It's a Union Flag. It's only a Union Jack if flown from the jack staff of a seagoing vessel. That reminds me, I must get an Irish driving licence to go with my Irish passport. Enjoys the 1950s, Brits!

You can call it a union jack if it flies off the back of a skateboard if you want

"In 1902 an Admiralty Circular announced that either name could be used officially. And in 1908 the UK Parliament approved this verdict, stating that ‘the Union Jack should be regarded as the National flag’."

Sold a car in early March. Sent off documentation (signed for by DVLA on 21/03). They've taken 3 payments for car tax (£100+)

Expected to have a delay given current circs. (normal turnaround is 6 weeks for refund) but despite various avenues of chasing they still cannot tell me when I'll be getting this back. Webchat only became available this week so have had it escalated but still waiting some 15(?) weeks on...

Factoid: you can cancel a DD. I always do when I sell or SORN a car.

The V5 for the car that I bought last Sunday arrived by post on Wednesday.

I disposed of two cars & bought another during May. V5 for new car took 3 weeks in post, as did the cheques for outstanding VED on the two sold cars. However, I don't have paying-in book for my bank (who the hell uses cheques any more????) & CBA to queue outside my 'local' branch which is 5 miles away. I called bank & was on hold for 30 minutes just to order a paying in book so I can hand over cheques at Post Office. 3 weeks later & STILL no paying in book!! Can't DVLA come up with a better solution? Postal Orders? Carrier pigeons??

Who do you bank with ?

Some banks / building societies accept uploaded photos of cheques - no need to visit a branch, no need for a paying in book.

Picked up a new vehicle on Tuesday.

Dealer notified DVLA online of part ex.

I received a confirmation email 10 minutes later from DVLA.

RFL refund cheque dropped on the mat yesterday.

Pain in via Lloyds app.

Job done.
