I drew out a stash of cash when SARS-CoV-2 arrived, but before the lockdown. Now no bugger wants to take it!

PS. I am waiting for interest rates to fall below zero, then, like some oil fields, the bank will pay me to take their money.

A couple of weeks ago Mrs ZS had her card declined at the local petrol station. Filled out the form and gave me a call, 10 minutes later I met her there and paid it off (and kept the receipt wink)

Speaking to the staff there (Tesco) they said they might be getting rid of the forms, so it would mean you'd have to get someone to come out and pay straight away, or they'd call the police. No idea if it was true, but it seems a bit of a backwards step. All very well if you have someone close by who can help, but if not you're stuffed. And surely the police aren't really that interested, what are they going to do exactly?

When I worked on the pumps some geezer left his wife as a deposit until he came back and paid. I've always wondered what would have happened if he hadn't come back hehe

The Police will only come out if the offender has made no attempt to pay, and left the scene.

The situation you've described has just created a temporary unpaid debt, civil matter.

As simple as that basically, more comfortable with using cash. I will be sorting out a card with one of my accounts though as a back up as the world seems intent on everything being electronic.

Op, just go in and tell the manager you've paid.

Give them a description of the staff member you paid, rough time etc... They can check who was working that day.

Then let them look into it and respond.

Tell them your not happy about getting letters from debt collection companies when you've paid.

No way I'd pay again for something I'd already paid for.

As has very helpfully been pointed out numerous times I'm a numpty for losing the receipt, I get it.

As for leaving it a whopping 2 days before returning I live nearly 10 miles from that particularly petrol station so waited until I had a reason to be in that town, the cashier was at the end of her shift anyway so returning the same day wouldn't have changed much.

To the person who suggested it being g an idea to track my whereabouts via google maps, good idea and not something I'd considered. If it comes to that it may help my cause so thank you.

If Milkround taught us one thing.........keep the receipt!!
Oh yes, oh very yes!
(It would also have been easy to photo the receipt, I often do that where the issue is likely to be/has been controversial. Useful tip)
Good tip that, cheers. What did Milkround get stung for out of interest?

Off topic but I remember my old man leaving me as a deposit while he test drove a car that he had gone to buy. I would have been quite young, 5 or 6 probably. Cant imagine that happening now.

Were you too busy that evening to go back and pay?

Not hard to imagine all manner of things. I'd rather ask and get the actual reason. Is that OK with you?

Get a card, OP. Cash isn't the best idea in the current health emergency. Money is easy to launder (hey! just ask my clients!) but folding cash isn't easy to wash.

He left a Supermarket where 'you buy your best clothes', having paid for goods on the self service till, kept no receipt. Security guard followed him out and challenged him, allegedly used homophobic language towards him, and allegedly assaulted him. SG claimed the opposite, police got involved, Milky refused to back down, got found guilty in court. Many, including I, presumed him innocent.

How do you get cash out of the bank without a card?

Contact the manager. Explain and take whatever proof you have. Ask why no contact until a debt collection agency got in touch.
Ask if they contacted police as, if you had not returned to pay then they could treat it as theft.
Whatever the outcome use it as a lesson in how to cover your arse in out of the ordinary circumstances re getting and keeping proof.

When this happened to me I'd gone to fill up on my lunch break and realised I didn't have my wallet after filling up, filled out the form, drove 10 minutes to the office and my wallet wasn't there realised it was in my other jacket at home so made my excuses, did the 45 minute round trip to get it, paid the petrol station then drove 10 minutes back to work and stayed late to make up for it. You left it 2 days for the sake of 10 miles?
Had the same problem where they didn't fill in the forms properly, debt collectors sent a letter, phoned the filling station manager and calmly explained the situation, they apologised profusely and sorted it out. Seems OP hasn't done this yet?
Iirc their forms were in a carbon copy book.
Probably helped I paid by card and kept the receipt.
Try to get a letter or email from manager.

Get a card.
