I think our interaction has run its course at this point.

Have a good day.

What point are you making?

They WILL reduce, that much is 100% true.

The “when” and “how quickly” is perhaps more up for discussion.
Yeah, eventually. Phil is playing the long game laugh

I see this current “wave” as simply seasonal. The levels of people in hospital and dying is more-or-less in-line with previous autumn/winter numbers of respiratory diseases. Only difference being that there’s a new kid on the bloc.

I would therefore expect the numbers to reduce in-line with that seasonality.

I think the truth is somewhere in-between. Infection numbers increasing is/was somewhat due to the increase in testing. But hospitalisations and deaths are increasing too, and will always be a function of infection. The infection vs death rate will show you that. But its not zero. As winter hits, this is gonna get interesting.

I'm in Melbourne, Australia.
Massive 2nd wave lockdown, which we're slowly coming out of.
The vast majority of people are hating the restrictions and mask wearing, but put up with them because they're working.

There's no evidence of the massive deaths and suicides that Phil is banging on about, and I've had 3 necessary operations in the last month, because cat. 1 surgery is going ahead.

The economy is suffering, but businesses are still in business, my employer keeps making and selling machinery, we're getting by.
The only businesses that I personally am aware of that are struggling are, ironically, in the smash repair industry - with so many people working from home, car accidents are way downbiggrin

The childish whining on this thread from Phil the contrarian is hilarious.

Wave, or a ripple? Certainly not “massive” by any stretch of imagination.

You should now prepare for a unsolicited Australian graph to be displayed alongside an opinionated, yet totally incorrect misrepresented 1000 word comment about how everyone on your continent must be making it all up, just to disagree with them personally. biggrin

Massive lockdown, not 2nd wave.

Then again, we actually have contact tracing that works, and the 3 pre-op covid tests I've had I got the results in less than 24 hours.

Fair enough, I did wonder if I was reading it wrong.

Contract tracing is a load easier at the numbers you’re experiencing vs ours. Not that I’m making excuses for the stshow ours is.

Sticks.

Contact tracing works well as we can see by south korea, nz and Australia.. contact tracing is pointless when you're incapable of doing basic tasks like our goverment filled with baboons.

As it stands it's basically pointless having it other than them saying that they've done something about it. They let it go out of hand so all they can do is lock things down and hope for the best.

That seems remarkably offensive. To Baboons.

And what do you expect when you pay a mere 12 Billion quid?

Less that they totally baffons (allthrough most of them are) and more too busy looking after there mates handing them vast sums of money to do stuff they have clue how to do

Please explain to me where in these ONS government figures there is ANY sign of a continuing COVID pandemic! No tin foil stuff here, government facts!

- Average all deaths in 2020 are the same as for the past 5 years.
- Influenza deaths presently are higher than COVID deaths.
- There is a small rise in COVID related deaths presently but nothing like the increase in March when the pandemic occurred.
- The number of deaths presently involving COVID compared to other deaths is so miniscule that you cant see the blue on the second graph.

Where is your argument now for continued lockdowns and draconian restrictions on our movement at the cost of thousands of excess deaths for other causes and billions to the economy?

Come on all you COVID worriers, lets here you argue your case against what the government data says smile
