I think not being given sufficient time to be correctly trained is well worth complaining about to be honest. The OP could be a direct result of someone just being put on some BS 'task force' and being told to go and deal with something they don't have the foggiest idea about.
Don't give out a bloody FPN then and be completely dismissive of the relevant legislation when presented??? You guys seem to have plenty of time to conjure up absurd mental gymnastics to justify bloody-minded incompetence, why don't you use that time to learn an exceedingly simple bit of legislation for an exceedingly well publicised and exceedingly prevalent policing issue? Yes, the police has been hit hard. No, that isn't an excuse for giving out unlawful FPNs. It's very simple and the more you try to argue otherwise the less convincing you sound.

I haven't given any FPNs out and I'm also OK with the legislation so you're already onto a non starter there.

I can't comment on the officer in the OPs post as I don't know them. They could be crap, they might have had training and just fked up, we'll never know.

All anyone is doing here is giving an insight into why people may get it wrong from time to time.

Seems straight forward enough.

But then you can't brag to the media that you've issued 70000 fines.

Atleast they're pissing into the wind now, there were 100's of people out and about mingling yesterday at our local lake.

And if doing the job because I want to lock criminals up and protect the vulnerable are the "wrong reasons".........then maybe I am in the wrong job.
Exactly the right reason IMO, and as a member of the public I thank you for it. But its a shame that you are disillusioned and that you don't see a route to step up and feel that the young bloods can match you.

IMO lack of years but enthusiasm doesn't replace experience (I would say that because I am getting on), but I enjoy mentoring and bringing the young bright guys and girls who will be paying my pension in future.
Yes Nibbles - that's fine, but you clearly must realise the criminal side of policing is only one small part. You can be called upon to deal with anything and everything. Thinking of yourself as just a number comes across as having no pride in the respected position you hold. Maybe it would have sounded better if written in a more positive way - e.g. I know I give 100% as often as I can and hope I provide a decent service. How I deal with individuals at each interaction will be determined accordingly. Rather than I'm not learning about Covid FPN's because I won't be issuing them and I'm just a number.

I can hope you're most positive than you're coming across.
And that's what I'd tell a senior officer or MOP
But anonymity allows me to "tell it like it is"

It is a shame, but hardly surprising given the constant stream of vitriol addressed to any officer who is less than perfect in the press and on social media (in which I include PH) I've asked before and been dismissed out of hand, but can any of us truly say we perform at 100% all day, every day? I think not.

No one performs 100% for 100% of the time - however, when I am dealing with stakeholders eg public, governement officers etc which I do many many times a day, I always try to be at the top of my game and slip when it comes to paperwork and admin

I'm sure most, if not all, officers also try. A few of them fail occasionally. A few of those have those failings held up for trial by social media. Do you? Do I? Should we? If your answers are No, No and No, perhaps we should stop doing so to other human beings with human failings, shouldn't we?

One day you're heroes tackling terrorists with nothing more than a stick, the other 364 days of the year you're the scum of the earth.

You'd be healthier (better fed and more sleep.) I hear they often have forks in their mess rooms, too.

Have you been out on the beat again Nibbles?

Why on earth are these officers clueless time and time again? It's been national news enough times.

That’s appalling. WTF do those officers think they are doing? There is zero excuse for that behaviour.

Honestly? That does not look good at all. Arrested because the officers hadn't got a clue about how to talk to people. Put in handcuffs for no apparent reason too. The costs are just mounting up in this future compensation case. frown
