So I was payng the above via DD monthly, and decided I wanted to pay it in one go, So I cancelled the DD and was waiting until the end of the month to start again.

This was back in january, and was going to pay to start in feb, but when I checked in feb, it still shows as taxed until 1st Jul, and currently it still shows as taxed until 1st July, I have had notification from them about the DD being cancelled, but its still showing as taxed.

Is this an issue with the DVLA website? Would the reg flag up on ANPR, or would it show as taxed still? not used the car for a while as now WFH, so is this something that people are possibly doing to get away with not paying tax, set up to pay by DD, cancel after the first month, and then drive for the next 11 for free, and without risk of being caught?

Did you just cancel the D/D without telling them? When you buy VED it remains valid, you are just paying for it in instalments. I have a feeling you may get a demand for owed money.

I always buy in one go because I don't want to give them the 5% premium but I would have declared the vehicle SORN to cancel the D/D and then bought it the next month.

Unless you are actually taking it off the road, wouldn't you end up paying twice for one month, and therefore lose more than your 5% saving?

I never pay by D/D, I was just suggesting what I would have done if I had.

If you SORN a car a couple of days before the end on the month (you have to leave it few days for the database to update, but at present, I don't drive ever day), and then buy it again on the 1st of the next month, you don't cover the same month twice.

So I cancelled it a few days before the end of the month, thinking ive already paid that month with the DD and then I will start it from the next month, didnt have that option, so was waiting until the start of the month to tax it.

Looking at the Failed DD Reminder, its saying that they are giving me chance to tax it before changing it to untaxed, I just wouldnt have expected it to take this long

To be fair to them, there is quite a bit of a delay. They allow a bit of discretion. I've left a car untaxed a few days after a purchase and then taxed it the start of the next month. Never had an issue.
