because its only making noise and not actually completely failed (yet) they wont cover it. They also said that if it subsequently fails soon they won't cover it either as clearly driving it in its current form is negligent.
...seems like the only way to get round this is to ignore/not report any signs of impending doom, and only report it once its gone boom.

Went through similar rubbish with a third party warranty company... aircon stopped blowing cold, so went to a well-known garage chain who dye tested it and said "you have a hole in the condenser. Everything else is fine."

So, we checked the warranty paperwork, "aha, aircon condenser - we're covered". Rang warranty co who advised which of their approved garages to take it to for inspection.

Mechanic inspected, diagnosed, and phoned warranty company to give them the diagnosis. When he said there was indeed a hole, they asked what he thought caused it. "Probably a stone" "ah, well that's wear and tear. Claim denied." "Well, it might have corroded" "ah, we don't cover corrosion. Claim denied." "Hmmm, possible it just failed." "ah, manufacturing defect. Claim denied!"

The mechanic got more and more irate as he realised what a bunch of shysters they were. It actually made me feel slightly better about the situation. But, when I read the warranty paperwork from a much more cynical viewpoint I realised it wasn't worth the paper it was printed on as they will always exclude anything related to corrosion, manufacturing defects, latent defects, wear and tear, improper maintenance, improper repair. What else is there to cover?

It's a racket - used car dealers get to give you a piece of paperwork with "warranty" on it for a fixed cost, and the warranty providers get to keep all the money. I know there are genuine warranty providers out there, but the ones that come "free" with a used car are worthless.
