85-ish on the M3 in my Golf GTI at night. Police car crept up behind with no blues on, lit up as it passed, pulled in front gradually slowing to 70, as did I. We both stayed at that speed for a couple of miles then it turned off. I never heard anything, sensible policing I thought.
I had similar heading towards the Channel Tunnel. I was going fast (85 - 95) but sensibly, not tailgating, slowing down when traffic was heavier, but booting it when the road was clear. There was a white X5 trailing me at a sensible distance for about 10 miles. The fact that the X5 wasn’t tailgating me should have warned me that it was an unmarked car. We were approaching an average speed section and the X5 lit up the blue lights and sailed past, two uniformed plod, the passenger opened his window and gave the “slow down” up and down arm wave, then left the blue lights on and they booted it ahead of me. They clearly were plod because they didn’t worry about the average speed section....

Once for doing somewhere in the mid 90s on a motorway going from Chester to Wrexham, North Wales, was around 6 years ago and probably around 9am, I came out of a motorway services, down the slip road and seeing a clear pathjoined the motorway and then into lane 2 when I put my foot down and off I went.

A couple of miles further down I see the flashing blue lights behind me so I pull over onto the hard shoulder and get invited into the back of a marked car, I was asked how fast I was going and I replied "I don't know as I was focused on the road not my speedo" the Officer checked my car over and checked insurance which was all ok then said I was as lucky his device wasn't working properly and told me to slow down and off I went.

I've been pulled 3-4 other times as I work shifts and I get pulled over to ask what i'm doing and to check who I am, which i'm ok with to be honest

Stopped once in South Wales 30 odd years ago, late for work and was overtaking a line of cars down a very wide single carriageway. One car in the line was an unmarked Jaguar XJ that lit up the hidden blues and stopped me. No speed detection equipment fitted so no ticket, but the Chief Constable of Gwent driving his own car to work gave me a severe bking.

Got stopped driving into Warwick in an area where they had recently reduced the speed limit from 40 to 30. Stopped by traffic with a mobile hair dryer, and thought this was my time. He asked me how fast I thought I was going, I estimated 42 (had completely forgotten about the speed limit change, and was tired from driving home from Holiday in Cornwall). Turns out I’d got my speed exactly right and to my surprise he let me off with a talking to, said he was doing an awareness exercise rather than booking people. Still don’t know if this was true, or maybe he had a strange rule whereby he let people off who knew exactly what speed they were doing.

80 in a 40 - over the Brent Cross Flyover on the North Circ - it's a 3 lane dual carriageway.

It was about 11pm a couple of days before Xmas in 1986/7. I was in my Alfasud and had raced someone away from the lights and just kept on going.

Given the time of year, the policeman breathalysed me, and when I blew under he wasn't interested in the speeding.
I never got pulled, but in the same place about the same time I was on the North Circ at 6.00am on a Saturday. The wall at the along side the slip lane ended to reveal a traffic car. Shat myself, I lifted off and he pulled in front of me and drove off.

I'll trot out the same one I always trot out when these posts appear.

140mph on the A34 just past Oxford (NSL dual-carriageway back then) at 2am.

Was 'trundling' along at about 90mph when I saw a car approaching quickly from behind. Obviously I reduced my speed just in case, but shortly later a black Saab 9000 overtook me going 'very quickly'.

I thought I could have a bit of fun, so floored mine and sped up to match speeds! Speedo showed 140mph and we kept this up, with a good distance between us, for about 10 miles.

As I was approaching my junction for Compton I lifted off, but so did the Saab. I must have got down to about 70mph, started indicating to take the junction when the Saab slowed down to get level with me, passenger window came down and a uniformed arm came out with a warrant card in his hand. I looked across, saw the two occupants in uniform...was ready to pull over and take my punishment when then they floored it and pissed off.

I think I have posted these before, but still.

1. 125 mph on a dual carriageway. Plod (unmarked) pulled me just after the second roundabout, where he informed me the accelerating hard between roundabouts he was fine with but taking a roundabout in excess of 80mph was not so good (MR2 has lots of grip.....).... He told me to slow down or else.....

2. 100 mph on the M25 around 2am in the Chimaera. Plod pulled alongside (unmarked), waved a finger at me so I slowed to 70 and he then launched off into the distance.

Never been caught, never been stopped - i feel in a minority at 45 yo frown

Edit: Well i was caught speeding in the Czech Rep in about 1995 and the fine was paltry - but the drawn fire arms where a bigger deterrant

I'm guessing you've hit some stop worthy speeds then?

About 50/55 in a 40 zone in a lairy looking/sounding American hot rod on a warm summer’s day about 15 years ago. Running illegal American-style plates too, so I was anticipating a good bking. I was lucky however. The two officers ticked me off for the speeding infringement, ignored the plates and were more interested in what the car was and asked to see the engine etc. One even sat in the driver’s seat smile

They were both big car guys luckily, and a salutary lesson for me.

I got let off for 90 mph in a 15 mph zone. The policeman thought it was a 50 mph zone, and warned me that if I had been driving at double the limit (100 mph) he would of had no choice but to lock me up.

Otherwise I have let off for speeding many times, and fined many times.

95 on the A1 at Chester le Street. I came up behind a marked police car on my GSXR 750 as he peeled off the main road. I gassed it past him but unfortunately he went down the slip road, round the roundabout and joined behind me.

He pulled me over and just told me to slow down a bit.

That was going down to visit the future Mrs Draw on a Saturday afternoon. This was a sort of long distance relationship and I could only get away at weekends.

Unfortunately I didn’t take his talking to to heart and got done for 91mph on the way home on the Sunday. 6 points and £200 fine.

Similar to me -doing about 40 in a 30 on the A38 in Filton in my Nova SR. Police motorbike pulled ij front of me and slowed to 30, as did I and then pulled away. Probably at the end of shift and didn't want the paperwork but it taught me a lesson. Had a clean licence from 1981

Pulled 3 times and never got done at any of them, every one was seriously over the limit. Only caught once with a camera and that got me 3 points.

That was in the U.K. mind, in Europe we were considerably less lucky!

Some time in the 80s I was stopped for doing 70 on a brand-new section of dual carriagway near Sheffield. There had apparently been a mix-up with road regulations, and a temporary 30mph limit was in force.

The avuncular traffic officer was very understanding and I was on my way after a short chat!

Both 95 in a 70 and 55 in a 30 are not far off a court appearance speed, if you value your licence I would think about slowing down a tad.
Especially given how 95 (assuming hats what the police said he was doing) will have been around 100 on your avarage Speedo

My Dad used to work nights in centre of Manchester so was frequently driving home at 3-4am. I bet he was stopped 4 or 5 times a year. Sometimes it was just random checks but frequently it was 40 in a 30 or driving through red lights. In 30 years he must have had around a hundred stops and he never got one ticket - I guess he passed the attitude test.

Myself stopped twice. Once when about 19 and breathalysed - passed let on my way. Second time for speeding 75 in a 60 (open country road Buxton-Ashbourne) booked and 3 points.

So the only time I’ve ever been stopped for doing something wrong I was booked!! Even worse my wife was a copper and was in the passenger seat and worked with the guy who stopped me and he still booked me!!
If he hadn't she might have shopped him to Ted and his team.

I was stopped many years ago, by mistake, I had passed a 30 sign that applied to a side road, not the road I was on, but it had been twisted round, so fair enough ...

Window down, hello officer

Evening Sir, do you realise you just entered a 30 zone at 60. As there is no traffic about we’ll say no more, have a nice evening.

Sorry officer, I’m a bit confused, can we go back and take a look.

We turned round, went back and upon realising his mistake he apologised, we had a chat and that was that.

My cousin got stopped many many years ago at 2am on the motorway in the inside lane at about 120.

Could you keep it below 100 sir ...

Got pulled a lot when I was younger but the one that really sticks in my mind I wasn’t even driving.

After finishing work (on the railway) Boxing Day morning about 10 years ago, the M25 was shut because of an accident so we were bombing through the lanes in a Transit, came into a village still doing about 55-60, all of a sudden the driver said “oh s&&t” and jumped on the brakes, then a traffic car pulled up alongside, the passenger leaned out the window and shouted “f&&king slow down!” and they shot off. We looked at each other in amazement, pootled through the village and found them stopped next to a Discovery upside down in a ditch.
