Out of curiosity - and not a comment on the OP - does anyone know if vehicles reported by SpeedWatch groups are checked for MOT, insurance etc.? And if they're not, then shouldn't they be?
I had a short discussion on this very point with a local councillor who is trying to set up a Speedwatch group. It was mentioned in the local paper that they'd caught so many speeding motorists who turned out to have no MOT, VED, or insurance.Unfortunately I've deleted the email, but the answer was that the group didn't check driver's details and didn't have access to police computer systems, but were given statistics showing the numbers offending as part of feedback. Feedback was given after a matter of months, but individuals were not identified.Anyone checking reg.numbers against the Gov.uk site and/or Ask.Mid on their smartphones would be acting entirely on their own.

You’ll get a ticking off letter from the Soeedwatch. Although expect your vehicle to be ‘of interest’ potentially to local traffic cops.
So stop doing 40 through villages. HTH
You have traffic cops? I haven’t seen one of those in years. So stop doing 40 through villages. HTH

What a strange comment.Grow up.
Take note that your response didn't answer the OP's original question - so what are you even doing here? Fortunately, there's still good advice to be asked for in this section of the PH forums, and to those, I'm thankful.
And perhaps you can take note yourself: what points did you answer of the OP's question? (None) So what are you doing here?
Etc etc ad infinitum
There has already been plenty of good advice for the OP to reflect on, including the quote at the top of this reply.

Would you know how to recognise one? They don’t generally have TRAFFIC COP emblazoned down the sidemartinbiz said:

I could attack them with my keyboard, but to be honest, I'd like YOU guys to give me suggestions how to deal with them again, if I come across them in future.
That youtube clip IS pure gold... To other petrolheads, you just know they are reacting like these guys. Of course, not everyone lives a joyful life travelling at speed in fast vehicles and they'll never understand. But that is their problem, if they want to live miserably.
To the guy asking about speed - I don't really care for imposed limits, I will adjust my driving or riding speed appropriately to the terrain, road surface, and weather conditions etc. I trust myself more to do this than the ability of a sign to instruct me how to get around.
It wouldn't bother me if I had people going past at speed or loudly. I use my senses to avoid people speeding in urban areas or anywhere for that matter. There's a young guy who goes past my house a couple of times a day on a straight piped chopper of some kind, am probably one of the few around here who don't mind the ridiculous noise, because it comes and goes pretty fast!
Ultimately - and a lot of people who have replied here could benefit from this - just chill out, let the small things go! Life is much more enjoyable this way.
Which is fine if you are realistic about your own driving ability and ability to judge conditions. I agree that speed limits are often too low or not appropriate. The problem is when people are asked about their ability to control a car, virtually everybody claims to be above average, which is clearly non-sense.That youtube clip IS pure gold... The sad truth, is many who drive fast don't have the car control to do so safely. They are dangerous, not because they are deliberately trying to hurt people but because they can't be honest with themselves about their ability to control a car.
In my own case I can drive a car to the extent that I don't hit other objects, moving or stationary but I have no particular feel for driving. I have no business taking a car to its limit on a race track, let alone a public road. I lack the skill to do that and I am honest enough to admit that to myself. Alas many people aren't.
As for people in yellow jackets checking speed, in my experience they soon get bored and give it up. So I wouldn't worry about it.

You can expect a letter possibly pointing out where you are going wrong, but at the moment nothing more than that.Holding out for someone with a similar experience of this to post. Cheers.
Yes you will get the Judge and jury on here somtimes, but why make it easier for them by your advertising your silly actions and coming across as a bit of a P***k
Speed limit signs are not an indication to start slowing down. They are big enough that you can see them and adjust your speed before you reach them.
Is it that bad that people would like the traffic to be lighter and slower?
- Long Preston on the A65 between Skipton and Kendal.
Every bank holiday, the local teenagers would have fun by repeatedly pressing the pedestrian crossing lights and eventually creating a 5 mile tailback each way.

I live in a cul-de-sac, limit is 20... But as long as someone is going past faster and NOT running over the cats that live here, I really don't mind. It just doesn't upset me at all.
I'm convinced that all cul de sacs should be turned into 5 mph play streets. Remove the pavements, (which stopps people parking on them) designate areas for parking, and expect infants and toddlers and teenagers and cats to be lying around or playing in the street. bartelbe said:

apart from those doing absolutely crazy speeds it isn’t really about car control but hazard perception. It used to be the onus was on the driver to drive appropriately within the speed limits, now the speed limit seems set for the worst case of potential hazards. Hence the perception people have now that safe driving equals the speed limit. The sad truth, is many who drive fast don't have the car control to do so safely. They are dangerous, not because they are deliberately trying to hurt people but because they can't be honest with themselves about their ability to control a car.
I guess the motorists as a group have to shoulder the blame for failing to behave responsibly given the old rules in the eyes of the authorities although I would question how scientific the approach. Some no doubt will over estimate their ability to stop in an emergency but I genuinely feel there are plenty of normal drivers who have the capability to recognise how to manage speed appropriately and have been dragged down to the lowest denominator of the non thinking driver. It makes driving feel very robotic. I often use the limiter and it makes driving feel unnatural in the flow of traffic where people are using common sense and certainly not racing around.

ound here people buy houses in an NSL and then campaign to get the limits reduced because people keep driving fast past their house…
What proportion of people have successfully lobbied for the current speed limit outside their house? As an aside...people in one of these villages complained about speeding drivers so much that plod decided to visit...over 80% of the people caught speeding actually lived in the village

Why don’t you just keep your speeding on the track?
That’ll be a win - win. You can speed all you want on track days and you are less likely to kill someone else. And you might learn that you and your car isn’t as fast as what you thought.
