Caught by community speeding group doing 40 in a 30...

Traffic calming, community speedwatch & probably other methods have been tried; I have no idea whether it makes a jot of difference to the regular suspects, but surely a bit of consideration to local residents wouldn't hurt?

This is the thing - I do respect local residents, and for probably 95% of the time do make effort to stick to the limits. But when I see the OAP brigade there carrying out hostile reconnaissance, I do make sure they know I've also seen them, and make clear my views on their actions. They cannot expect anything less, from the moment they donned the high-viz and picked up the clipboard & camera.

Nobody likes a badly modified exhaust, but the music from a sport system or bike engine with a titanium exhaust is, sonically, a wonderful thing! Some may disagree but when the time is right, I do let the car/bike sing. Usually NOT when in 30's except for this particular instance.

There are occasions where these people have been trained to use the device properly and their evidence can be used to convict.

The witness to an offence does not need to be a policeman!

25mph in 1st would do the job - about 5000rpm in mine (in 2nd gear would only be 3000rpm).

Pity it wasn't a 40mph limit as I could bounce it off the limiter in 1st then!

Why don't you write to your local MP about it?

We can't have hostile actions being carried out, and being endorsed by the local constabulary, can we?

My other half got a letter telling her she was speeding but no further action was taken.

She then got caught by a mobile speed camera and did a speed awareness course but she still has the habit of drifting into speed limits and then slowing down.

Usually it's just a letter but - at least around here - they have been upgraded to actually being able to dish out points, not sure how, possibly with a PCSO or whatever accompanying them.

It's pretty tttish speeding in residential 30s, though, so I find it hard to get too worked up about these folk, particularly as I imagine most folk would be more than happy for them to be monitoring their home village etc.

Going past at 25 mph having picked up a queue of traffic is best, I used to do that when I spotted Plod on the way to work. Even better is slowing the queue to walking pace just as you go past.
You could even turn round out of sight up the road and lead another queue past, then rinse and repeat

NSL 60 straight down to 30 isn't very helpful I always think...

Would be far more effective (and probably safer) to put a 40 sign up a couple of hundred yards before the 30.

And this, catering for muppets, is why 30 zones in villages get extended outwards with 40 zones, until it's 40 everywhere.

Exactly. In my misspent youth I was always getting points. I worked for my Father and regularly did 50k miles a year, so it was sort of inevitable. I was regularly on 9 points and tried to drive properly for a while. Unfortunately I got another 3 points after trying to meet yet another stupid deadline. Luckily, our very good lawyer got me off a ban, but I had to drive like my livelihood depending on it (which it did) for a good few months afterwards.

Correct, it certainly does not have to be a police officer to be a witness for any offence, but his/her expert opinon and evidence is will be seen as far more credible in a court than a MOP or in this case a bunch of OAP's playing with a speed camera, which they will have been shown how to use but not have been trained and approved (if they were they would then be a camera operator) so any evidence gathered is vanshingly unlikey to be robust enough to get a conviction in any UK court

We have our local group as well, but I find it difficult to get worked up about them as anyone going much more than 30 in our village, given the narrow roads and bad sightlines, is being a bit of a cock anyway.
