Right from the start I always knew who would win.

The winner will be:

The lawyers. They will get their money from someone.

Always the same in cases like this.

Rooney is the same age as Ronaldo

It’s fair to say Rooney pissed his talent away
What an odd opinion confused
Is it? Ronaldo at the same age is still banging in hat tricks in the Premier League. Rooney isn’t but could have been every bit as capable of doing so.
Yes. It’s incredibly odd. As others have pointed out he has had a career in the top 0.1% of all footballers ever.

Ravel Morrison pissed his talent away. Rooney? Not a chance. Could have been even better? Perhaps. That doesn’t equal pissing talent away.

You just don’t like him clearly.

As for the argument point. Why return to a forum if you don’t like debate? confused
As above, big fan of him as a player, very sad he was all done by 31 after caning the fags and booze throughout his playing days.

Personally think Rooney will get the nod on this, but as has been reported the legal fees will far outweigh any costs order

Vardy has probably been advised her case is weak, but ‘thinks’ (a struggle, I suspect) she knows better and a nice suit will sway the court…..

I’m not sure, the onus is on Rooney to prove it was Vardy, all Vardy has to do is prove other people had access to her account at that time and it makes it almost impossible

Some time ago BV72 posted, I think on the Old Bentley thread, about clients who become obsessed about going to Court regardless. Quite opened my eyes to how some people deal with their problems, real or perceived.
Money. She admitted her friend had access to her account. So I'm really not sure what she is proving now, yes she didn't sell the stories herself, her friend who accessed her account did.

Adjacent to the Royal Courts of Justice is Bell Yard. There used to be a legal bookshop there with a picture in the window of a cow. There was a man at the front pulling it one way, and a man at the rear pulling it the other. On a stool is a lawyer milking it.

They are taking the mickey as well as the milk in this one I think.

Yes I think that was clearly going to happen

Watt passed the info but Vardy was well aware

As soon as Watt's phone went into the North Sea it was all over

Surely Rooney was always going to win.

She blamed the leak from ‘Vardys Account’, not Vardy, and this was clearly the case.

Note - I’ve barely followed this story, so they’re maybe more to it. Honestly I’m not that interested. biggrin

It doesn't work like that. That argument was made and explicitly rejected at an earlier hearing back in 2020. Because a reasonable person reading the post as a whole would have understood that Rooney was accusing Vardy of being the leaker.

The post was full of phrases like "someone I trusted to follow me", and "just one person has viewed them". She doesn't get to row back from that by saying "yes but at the end I did say her account, not her". For roughly the same reasons that if you publish a giant newspaper headline that says "Michael Portillo has sex with goats" you can't dodge a libel suit by pointing to the tiny print on page 5 that says "actually that bit about goat shagging might not be true".

If she'd wanted to hide behind an "I said her account, not her" defence then at the very least she'd have had to have included a much more substantive disclaimer to the original post, along the lines of "of course it's possible that someone with access to her account did this without her knowledge... I've asked her for an explanation etc etc". She didn't do that.

So in order to win the case Rooney did have to prove that the leaking was done by Vardy herself, or at least by someone acting with Vardy's approval. Which she did, thanks in part to some car crash testimony from Vardy and Watt.

Did I hear that Vardy now has a legal bill of around £3M?

Well, that was worth it then.
