I caught some lunatic driving and (minor) collision on my dashcam in Peterborough two weeks ago. Uploaded to the Cambridgeshire dashcam police portal, written proper report with all the details 10 days ago. Receipt acknowledged but no reply.

I'm not supposed to upload to social media having reported it as a crime, but presumably there comes a point where the police have effectively said not interested and I can show PH the juicy video?

I don't think there's anything to stop you (the mods may have specific rules on this site), but don't be upset if it impacts the case against the driver if you're wanting some sort of 'justice'.

Not going to affect me in anyway, both drivers were idiots and I only go through Peterborough as a last resort.

This site does have rules that prohibit you posting:

m. The publication of comments that could affect the outcome of an approaching or ongoing court case, whether criminal or civil.

10 days is not really that long in the grand scheme of things. The guy might just be receiving his first NIP at this point.

I guess it depends on whether you want transient internet cred or something reverberating to actually happen to the driver.

Why even bother showing it?

Is there a prize on offer or are you after lots of internet pats on back?

We all live for internet pats on the back, including you.

That's why you've posted ITT.

That's quite a deep point I know.

As I say, transient internet cred is my raison d'etre.

Why post it here, when you could probably sell it to an actual TV show for money? smile

It's a fair point though. Either allow the police to investigate it or use it yourself to get some attention on the internet. You can only chose one so decide what you want and stick with it.

That was my point. I am allowing them to investigate.

I'm sure they are full speed ahead investigating. I have no doubt, nose to the grindstone, when they're not eating donuts in front of Netflix.

I assume you sent it to them so that some sort of justice is done, even though it appears from your OP that you're just a witness and not a victim so I'm not sure what level of contact you're expecting from them. It's not like anyone who hands over CCTV then also gets kept informed of the progress of the instigation; you've simply given some evidence, that doesn't put you in a position where you can expect an update.

It's clear from your first post that you're aware that a prosecution could be jeopardised by you posting the footage online yet you still want to and ask for advice on here when you can. What exactly are you hoping to achieve? Perhaps then we can advise you, the police can get back to Netflix and donuts and you can get on with your busy life.

Rereading my original post, I wasn't quite clear, apologies -

When you make the incident report, you don't actually upload the footage until the police ask for it. (At least on the Cambridgeshire Police part of the dashcam upoad portal).

So...

I've reported an accident, damage occured to two vehicles.

The police still haven't asked for the footage or allowed me to upload it ten days later.

To be serious, someone is probably trying to make an insurance claim at least.

There's always so much angst on these threads smile

The OP explained why he'dlike to post it, he feels its a 'juicy little video'.

He's posting anonymously, as we all are, so I'm not sure how he'll gain publicity.

We may also learn something from the vid, having said that however, I don't watch those st driving compilations on YouTube, I find them too depressing. smile

Did you stop to provide your details to the two drivers? Their insurance claim will just continue parallel to the police side of things and it's much more important that they have an independent witness with video footage to help their claim than any police involvement.

In terms of the police side of things, it's just what you've been told. You can either post it up and potentially jeopardise a case or hold fire and give it to the police and they may be able to prosecute.

You should definitely post it on here, as soon as possible. The subsequent interpretations will undoubtedly assist and influence any Police investigation.

For unclear reasons neither of the drivers stopped to swap details so I was unable to assist.

On the broader point, legally I think it's almost certainly nonsense that posting a realtime video of an incident could ever jeopardise a case. How could it?

I think we all know the answer to your first question

Wasn't able as too busy dealing with an erection and the dash cam button
