when are they going to start to tracing and fining the cyclists who dont stop at lights or hop on the pavement to avoid lights ride wrong way down one way streets etc ??
what happens when an emergency vehicle with blues and 2's is trying to get past ? sorry I am not going on the cycle lane to make room as I dont want to pay £160 for the privilage ?

Same as if you were stopped at red light , not your issue to move into a position which will cause you to be fined to let them by.It's worth making really clear that this only applies to the minority of cycle lanes which are marked by a solid white line, not the more common dashed white line cycle lanes.
I don't see that it's necessarily madness or money-grabbing to enforce the existing rules (which have been in place for a long time). At least, it's no madder than fining people who make a prohibited U-turn, for example.
What can be mad is if there are solid-white-line cycle lanes where there's a reasonable need for vehicles to dip into them, however strictly speaking that's an issue with the road layout, not the rules or their enforcement.

Just to add an emergency vehicle approaching a junction with stationary traffic at lights should turn the sirens off, and as you say, you should not jump the lights,
It's quite a sad state of affairs that we can't trust people to use their discretion to make space for an emergency vehicle when it comes to traffic lights/bus lanes etc. And that people are forced to prioritise the avoidance of a fine over, potentially, someone's life. Vipers said:

They are using the same cameras used for bus lane enforcement , which are everywhere. I'm an ex Londoner who discovered quite how many very cleverly placed bus lane cameras there are (trained on the last few meters where the bus lane ends and cars expand into both lanes......).I could be wrong as the misses tells me……….often
I won't move an inch into a bus lane for emergency services, and now, not a cycle lane.

Personally I have no problem with drivers crossing into solid-line marked cycle lanes being treated the same as drivers who shoot red lights either, in that both should be penalised in the majority of cases but both should also be treated with a modicum of common sense for things like emergency vehicles. And yes, cyclists who shoot red lights should obviously be treated the same.

But in reality it'll increase the "them vs us" hatred on both sides.
Only amongst the subsection of both sides who are complete morons. For anyone with two brain cells to bang together there is no "them vs us" in the first place. kambites said:
Yeah screw that. I will happily drive through red lights/onto pavements/etc to get out of the way of an emergency vehicle as long as it's safe to do so. I've never had a fine for doing it, but it wouldn't bother me if I did, the emergency vehicle is more important than my wallet.
After being baited into camera traps there is sod all chance I'll jump a light, or drive into a cycle or bus lane.Edited by kambites on Friday 24th June 11:24
It's not about your own wallet, it's about clearly defined rules and laws regarding emergency services. Even the police state you absolutely should not jump lights for emergency services unless specifically told to.
Re the cycle lanes - I agree, I can't see anything has changed. It's dickish do drive in them regardless. It's just now. TFL has weaponised them, again. Go ahead , pull into one for an ambulance. It's your money.
During the pandemic, I pulled into the pavement at a set of lights to let an ambulance on full blues and twos past. I pulled back out, and followed them, into the next petrol station , where they bought two coffees.
