Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony announced in January that they wouldn't be attending, in the last week Ubisoft said the same. They all do their own presentations now. https://www.pcgamer.com/e3-2023-is-cancelled/.

There probably won't be any future shows either. E3 used to be one of the big game events of the year to see product launches and new games, it's sad that there's probably no way back for it.

Yeah, real shame, doubled down by the fact I was supposed to be going this year.

Yep shame, it was an exciting event.

Apparently attending in person wasn't all that great as you were hunting for a queue that wasn't already blocked off for being too long!

Following online was great fun though and provided an element of competition between Sony/MS/Nintendo, and big publishers. Now we'll just get pre-recorded presentations whenever each company is ready, or they won't bother at all.

Yeah, I work for Square Enix, so it would have been a work trip too, hopefully with some kind of pass that got me about a bit more easily. Alas, not now.

Interesting - what is it you do for Sq Enix?

Hopefully nothing to do with going all-in on NFTs!

Ha nothing as glamorous as game development I am afraid, just work in IT. All in is a bit strong to be honest, the whole W3/Blockchain stuff is being looked into, and I suspect all Studios are to a degree wondering where the gaming industry is going to pivot too next. But I would say it’s far from Squares main focus.

Its my first time working in this kind of industry though, and its certainly interesting, never worked anywhere before where the company has won a BAFTA for example.
