No ANPR then in the area.
would this not highlight lack of insurance ?
Given how many catches they’ve had, from plainly imbecilic drivers with far more money than sense, looks like it’s quite an omission and would be a great place to put ANPR.

That's incredible, take a special kind of stupid to do that!
I was wondering how to phrase it, but yeah. Spot on.
That made me laugh.

It would be interesting to know if there was a common denominator linking the people ?

BBC Look East spent a day alongside Bedfordshire Police who were targeting uninsured drivers in Luton.

The driver of a Range Rover Sport is pulled over and has his car seized for no insurance. The now car-less driver gets his wife to come and collect him but her car isn't insured either so that car is also seized. The driver returns later in a Range Rover driven by a friend to remonstrate with the Police for seizing both his cars. Unfortunately for him, his friend's Range Rover was also uninsured and the Police seized that too.

In total, 43 drivers were stopped during the day for not having valid insurance.
I would think plod on that shout would have been absolutely pi**ing themselves, I know I would have been
Did you see the video? Copper could barely contain himself. Best. Day. Ever.

If my car was uninsured, I’d be seriously worried, if I had an uninsured Range Rover, I’d be uncontrollably defecting myself. Maybe, this type of scum don’t steal from each other.

Having not seen the programme, I’m guessing it a case of, there are ‘Range Rovers’ and there are range rovers, the latter being one step away from the scrap yard.

And this is why, as well as the cost, I chose to hire a 3.5ton Sprinter.

Or they are from a certain community that doesn't sleep in a house.

Misleading headline. When I was a kid, a Luton driver didn't have to live in Luton, but had to drive a Luton bodied van.

In our Ops room was a feed from ANPR cameras dotted round our area. Photos pinged up very regularly. Trouble is there were a lot so to deal with them all would tie up way too many officers, adding to the calls to leave motorists alone and catch burglars!
The system can automatically detect and fine speeders easily enough, why doesn't it work that way for the uninsured? Same for illegal plates.
I wouldn\t put too much faith in the system. See the Car Seized even though I was fully insured thread.

Understandable but it really shows how valuable it would be to get the insurance DB linked up. I'm amazed it hasn't happened by now given how many zillions they spend on speed traps.

I often wonder who sits and goes through all the DCW clips that people send in. It often says Police forces get thousands of clips from DCWs. I assume someone has to sit there and work out which ones are worth bothering with.

Or maybe ‘if you can’t afford to insure a car then don’t buy it’.

How so? If someone uninsured has an accident do insurers payout?

If the fine for being uninsured is say 10% of the cost of the insurance then I can understand why some people do it.

Perhaps o/t but there is also another scam going on where people get insurance using address details from areas where insurance is lower. My father in law got caught up in it whereby multiple "you are insured" letters turned up at his home.

Save me the tears of someone who can afford to wrap a RR but not insure it.

That's the issue. How often will they be pulled over?

Pay the fine, insure, collect quickly to avoid storage fees increase then cancel the policy just bought.

Is it even insured in their name or shown as last known keeper who states he sold it.

I sold a car in January. 3 weeks later I received a letter from the local Constabulary stating that my car had been seen on the road and had been flagged as not being insured.
It was NOT a notice of intended prosecution, just a letter to remind me to check if my car was insured.
Good policing, there are those who genuinely forget to renew insurance or MOT, and a letter like this will ensure a speedy reaction. It also shows those who are doing it intentionally that big brother IS watching them.
In my case, I’m so pleased that I got the purchaser to sign a receipt for the car, giving date and time of purchase.
The purchaser was a trader, using a trade plate which, obviously, was not seen by the officer/camera.

No, just entitled and arrogant fools that think the rules don't apply to them.
