smoking weed at home?
Discussion
Just for the record I dont smoke weed. I have a tenant that is complaining that they can smell weed from the neighbours house. Now this would not be normally something i would get involved in but my problem is that the neighbouring property is also a house that I own so they too are my tenants!
The reason I ask is because the complaining tenant has asked me to speak to my weed smoking tenants because she smells weed in her kitchen in the morning. The smokers living room abutts her kitchen. Before speaking to them I wanted to check the law.
Ps my weed smoking tenants are model tenants, they both are in full time employment (unlike my complaining neighbour who is on benefits), the rent is paid on time religously, they dont party or play music and my complaining neighbour admits to never hearing a thing from them.
Now my complaining neighbour on the other hand is behind on the rent and is sometimes a bit of a pain in the a**e.
I now have to tell my otherwise model tenants to stop smoking weed! Something I would have prefered not to have to do!
Cheers for the responses.

Suggest that the complaining tenant should speak to the local law-enforcing agencies about the issue, as it is not your responsibility to enforce the law.
If you are worried that the model tenants may move out as a result of police attention (which is unlikely), you could informally tell them what's going on and suggest they may like to hide the relevant substance for a while ...
Oli.

Allowing premises to be used...You might want to have a look at this:

Honestly, if they're as good tenants as you say (which lets be honest can be a rare find) then I'd be inclined to take this approach.Dibble said:

If your complainant can smell it strongly, I suggest you do an inventory visit to check stuff there.
Model tennants have been known to have ripped the interior of the house out to construct a cannabis factory causing tens of thousands of pounds damage.
Model cannabis factory tennants usually pay the rent on time and are no trouble whatsover because they don't want to attract attention that might uncover their nefarious activities and cause them a financila loss of both equipment and crops!
If your tennants in the 'odious' property pay by cash, I would get round there double quick!

Nowadays leasing is a risky business , it works out that the tenants have more rights over the property than you (as in the owner) due to sh**ty human rights laws ..... What a load of f*****g bo***x. Point made
