Point taken, having watched countless episodes of Traffic Cops, Road Wars, Police Interceptors etc. (purely for research purposes you understand) a lot of them seem to have rather large chips on their shoulders!

I've been in the situation of driving both a newly insured & taxed car before, without an up to date disc. Car flagged up on their systems as uninsured and untaxed. One phone call to my insurance company, one call to the DVLA, and I was sent on my way, and told to display the tax disc as soon as it arrives.
