Spotted a C8 today in full camo on German plates.
Not in the Us of a but in deepest Surrey !
My guess someone from Ian Allan was being given a sneak preview.

Was it RHD? Ha Ha! ;-) And/or maybe on the way to Dunsfold for the Stig to have a look?

Hi Craig,
It was pulling out of Kitsmead Lane onto Chobham Lane.
There was an Orange McLaren behind which may have been a coincidence.........or not.

Has a V6 been confirmed then?

I was under the impression it would start with a NA 6.2 V8?

I'm waiting to see what happens next week...

Meanwhile Corvette Club UK website seems to be trying to pretend it's not happening at all!

Sounds to me more like GM were doing some benchmarking of the new C8 against a McLaren, and on UK roads, which is a really good sign.

Cars developed on our roads is usually a good thing, as we have some pretty challenging B-road surfaces.

I also spotted it had all gone a bit quiet about C8 on CCCUK website. I have posted quite a lot on this over the years. Perhaps people are just bored of the same discussions, and just waiting for the reveal now. I can't wait to see it, I think it will be great, and completely understand the reasoning behind going mid-rear engined.

No v6, it has an LT2 which is an update of the current LT1 NA V8 making more HP. Likely over 500. Really hard to give up all the advantages of that engines series. I have ticket to go to the launch in Orange County. Should be fun, can’t believe GM is announcing in my area but I will take it.

I think that GM is aiming the C8 directly at the supercar/exotic market in picking this launch site.

and less than $60k!

I am really liking it and really want one (although probably in LHD as I assume they will be asking about £20k more for RHD)

RHD .. excellent, lets see what UK prices are. The Mustang success has them gagging for some extra sales.

I do like the GPS enabled front lifter .. very clever as long as it always works !

No leaf springs either.

My friend in the USA has complained it has lost it's american-ness ... er, isn't that good tongue out

It depends who your target market is. For most Vette owners in the UK and Europe, the American-ness was a huge part of the appeal. Take that away and you lose some potential owners, but gain others (especially with RHD). For me (as a previous C5 and C6 owner) it doesn't really appeal. It's just yet-another mid-engined car, it's less viable as a daily-driver (which both of mine were), and it'll be expensive. I'd be amazed if UK cars (which are always high-spec compared to the "rubber mats and hub caps" US base cars) come in at much less than £100k. Be interesting to see what they do about dealer network as well - typically the Achilles heel of the Vette experience (either bad, short-lived or scarce). And finally, what is it about people hating leaf-springs??? Ah, of course...they don't understand how suspension works so equate it with live-axle cars from yesteryear...

One of the things I always liked about a Vette was that it is an uncommon sight on UK roads.

If this comes in at the right UK price in RHD, it risks being the American version of the (choose your German manufacturer) Clitoris. You know what I mean, every **** will have one.

Mustangs have been available RHD for a fair while ,there's not THAT many around ,and a cheaper car than a Corvette.

I doubt they'll ever be common sight here.

the diference between the corvettes and mustangs is the C7 is a vastly superior car to the mustang and the corvettes improve with every version, the mustang stopped in 1973 with the last mach 1

That's simply not true and/or irrelevant.

Saying the Mustang stopped in 1973 with the last Mach 1 is like saying the Vette stopped in 1967 with the last C2. And just as the Vette improves with every version, so does the Mustang (if we exclude Mustang II and the later years of the C3). I've owned a C5 and a C6 and now a Mustang GT. All were/are great cars but they compete in different segments.

And finally the C8 is no more a Corvette than I am the Pope. Sorry, but it's true. Sticking a pushrod V8 in something and putting the flags on it doesn't make it a Vette.

That's the big question. Do 35,000+ people a year want to buy a fairly expensive mid-engine car with significantly reduced practicality?
