The rental cost for the 10 days was about $2400 all in.
I was doing about 105 mph when the cop pulled me, but he told me he had me at 98. After we had chatted for a bit, he told me that he would write me up for 90. Smaller fines that way apparently. Once I got over the shock of the cop approaching me with his hand on his pistol, he was charm personified and managed to refrain from any of the condescending bullst that comes with s stop from the UK traffic police.
I did take a pic on my mobile - I'll upload it later. TBH, it's a yellow C6 with chrome rims...
The mpg did shock me; it is possible the trip computer was overly optimistic, but it seemed to tally with what I had to put back in the tank.
I didn't mention that it oversteers ludicrously at will. Obviously!

I'd have another Vette without taking a breath before speaking my acceptance, to be honest. I've had a 1982 C3 and 3 (1997, 2000 and 2001) C5's, and I thought they were all great. Driven a Z06 (7 Litre) and it's just truely staggering how fast it is. As well as this, though, they're 100% reliable (none of mine *EVER* broke down), and the fuel consumption on the modern versions (C5 onward) mean that the figures quoted here are totally true.
Brilliant, brilliant cars - I'll definitely have at least 2 or 3 more before my time is up!

Can't hold ma tongue no longer. That Jeremiah Clarkson y'all worship, well ah seen him buying gasolene in Reno an he wuz drivin a 'vette.
Weren't no ordinary 'vette neither. He got hisself one o' them ZR1s, ya know the one with the supercharger 'n all.
Drove off with a smile on his face wider 'n when Billy Bob spent all night at the Chicken Ranch.
If them 'vettes so bad, why caint that boy keep his ass out of 'em?

So... I finally got a go in the Z06. That LS7 is an awesome engine, though to be honest the experience felt very much the same as the standard C6, just more so...
Trouble is, the whole time I was driving it, I kept thinking: "Can I get this engine in my Defender?"
Well, can I?
Yes - I'm sure you can. go for it and post pictures please.Trouble is, the whole time I was driving it, I kept thinking: "Can I get this engine in my Defender?"

Had a drive in a supercharged Evora S the other day. About the same performance and quality as my decade-old Vette although with a nicer chassis. But heavily offset pedals, very poor rear visibility and useless rear seats.
The Vette is an astounding car for those willing to open their eyes and look. The current base Vette has a thumping V8 wiyh 430 bhp and over 400 lb/ft, and the range goes upwards from there. There's very little on the road which can keep up, at almost any price. And the interior is fine by the way.

$2400 for 10 days you say :-). Will have to get one when I go, got flights booked in and out of Vegas later in the year, planning route at present, grand canyon, meteor creator, petrified forest, monument valley, north back through Zion national park, Bryce canyon & back to Vegas. Vette cab sounds ideal, had not spotted them on the hertz site and had though I'd be getting a Mustang.

If you can get a 457 big Block in a defender... than you can get a tiny little LS7 in no problem Trouble is, the whole time I was driving it, I kept thinking: "Can I get this engine in my Defender?"

Awesome!! I feel a project coming on.
Trouble is, my Defender only does 100 miles on a tank in its current state of tune. God knows what will happen when I go 427ci plus...
Anyone want to volunteer to do the work for me?!
In all honesty your MPG should get better with an LS series engine.Trouble is, my Defender only does 100 miles on a tank in its current state of tune. God knows what will happen when I go 427ci plus...

They are much more fuel efficient than the old RV8.
Here's a step by step install of an LS1 into a 1985 county with plenty of pictures. He mated it to a patrol 5 speed and an lt230 transfer box.
