Zero grip in the wet
Discussion
7 year old tyres!! They have probably had 100's of heat cycles.
I wont use anything older than 7 months on a race track with mine.
Make sure you change tyre pressures, rear and front ARB's if you can on a wet track.
Just FYI....Avon have changed a material they currently make the CR500's with and for all the racers in the Caterham Series will probably have to buy at least 3 new sets with the new material in as we wont be allowed to race with the old tyre.
So there might be some cheap tyres going, I know some of my competitors bought a new set just 3 weeks ago!

Not being pedantic here but its a very light car and even with good tyres grip in the wet handling is suspect at the best of times add some wet leaves or a smidgen of oil on the road and you are just a passenger to doom :-(
Best case senario......drive gently be aware of the 7's limits :-I

What about sway bars and damper rates? As I have not driven my Seven in the wet on track I am curious what others do.
When I was racing my MG Midget we always took of the sway bars in the wet. Completly transformed the car on wet track to be very good. As soon as it dried up. Swaybars back on, and good handeling in the dry as well.
This car was quite light so I would expect the same formula to work on the Seven.

Rubbish, it is a great car in the wet.....you just need to have the right set up, oh and a driver with balls rather than driver aids.......Best case senario......drive gently be aware of the 7's limits :-I
Just been having a close look at my tyres. I exaggerated, if I'm reading the sidewalls correctly they're 4 years old (still plenty old enough) and the rears are down to the wear indicators in the centre of the tread. Time for some new tyres.
Had a quick search on the web, can't see any 205/55/13 s on the Caterham site, or on Avon, or Kuhmo, I wonder if this may be a problem? Still hopefully have the winter to sort it out, although fancy at least one more trackdays ( or evo triangle blat was last night's inspiration!)

you need these for the rear http://www.caterhamparts.co.uk/product.php?id_prod...
and these for the front http://www.caterhamparts.co.uk/product.php?id_prod...

You'd be as well looking at the Avon CR28 for proper wet conditions in a 7.
At a Prescott National hill climb event this year I won the class by about 5 seconds (on a 50 ish second run!) compared to everyone else on AvonZZR or Kumho's.
Just checked it was by 4.35 seconds actually!

So if anyone wants any part-worn CR500's I am going to pick some sets up on Wednesday. They will all be around 3mm in tread at least or I wont pick them up, so around 50% worn as they come with around 6 or 7.
I reckon they will be £75 a set. PM me if your interested.
oh the tread indicators are about 2mm with the legal limit on the road being 1.6mm
