Keeping cool in your Caterham
Discussion
I did an 80 mile round trip in mine yesterday. The morning stint was very pleasant. The afternoon return was not so nice as the temperature had gone up to around 30 degrees by then and traffic was slower - so I was pretty much toasted by the time I got home.
Still, lovely to be out motoring in such weather.

Someone said a while back the heater was worth fitting for the cold air vents.. having got a rather uncomfortably warm left leg from the tunnel last weekend, I'm wondering if the vents can be put in without the heater bits (at least the mrs gets the exhaust!)
I did wonder whether owners of earlier cars which mostly had the the exhaust on the passenger side fare quite a bit better than later ones with it on the drivers side in hot weather.Nearly 30 ambient, engine sat nicely at 85ish, tunnel hot enough that it's uncomfortable to touch, feet sweating buckets, left side hot, right side about OK. Mrs likes warm, just as well 'cos she's being cooked from both sides. I'm the sort that skis in a t-shirt.. so glad it's a k-series

Presumably based on the cooling garments designed for astronaut EVA (spacewalking) suits. The cooling garment was originally pioneered at the Royal Aircraft Establishment here in Farnborough.

The cheap solution used in racing is to put a bag of ice down your race suit. Looks like you've wet yourself when the ice melts - (which strictly speaking you have) - but I'm told it works. If you don't have the half hood, cheap alternative leave top on, take doors off I have zip down rear window which helps reduce wind noise & air brake effect, cool on the move, shade when stationary (must keep your right arm tucked in as may not feel tan developing) when driving alone doors store nicely in passenger foot well so handy if weather changes for the worst.
p.s Tap water in a bottle, wet flannel to wipe head & face (place on head if cool is more important than fool look.)
p.p.s Strongly advise stopping to replenish flannel.

California style - side screens off, half hood on. Keeps the sun off, gives a nice through draft when you're running, and far less turbulence than with no side screens or hood when running with a screen attached.
Yep above works really well in very hot climates, especially coupled with a misty-mate (working well in 36 deg in France at moment).BertBert said:
What you need is the air-conditioning? that was talked about on here recently!
I know I got a ribbing for that, but I STILL don't see why as an OPTION it wouldn't make sense for Caterham to offer aircon.Nobody has a problem with a heater in a Caterham, so why is aircon such as crime for anyone who might want it? You can get Elises, Morgans, etc. with aircon, so why not a Caterham? Surely as an OPTION it couldn't hurt sales, and better sales is a good thing.
...or maybe I just need to get my coat...
