Hello!

After a RR session it looks as if my fuel pump is fading dropping from 3 to 2 bar near the top end. I have a Northampton motorsport built 2.0l giving approx 265 bhp.

Does anybody happen to know the best pump to replace it with?

I'm not able to get at it right now to check what's currently in there as in a lodge near Snetterton..

Cheers,
Lee

If it is the Ford 'in-tank' pump then it will be marginal at that sort of BHP. I had similar concerns and replaced it with lift pump, a Bosch 044 high pressure, and swirl pot with a 3 bar regulator at the fuel rail end and return. A lot of work but well worth it.

Hmm, thanks DCL. Certainly seems like I have an in tank pump (can't check for sure), as can't see one routing about and the priming sound seems to be from the tank.

Question is whether I have some kind of upgraded version in there as not sure NMS could have got 265 on their RR if this is expected from the standard unit.

Bosch 044 was what was mentioned as an option so good to see that's the route you went.

Cheers,
Lee

I did run 270 BHP from the standard in tank pump, so it can deliver the quantity. The main concern was that the single feed pipe had a pressure drop
when demand was high. Because the in-tank pump is regulated at the tank, it is difficult to overcome this. I have been told you can modify the pump by removing the regulator, but I couldn't see how to do it on mine and I ended up breaking it. There are other pump option that SBD recommend, so you could ask them.

I'm using peco 690cc (rated up to 450 BHP)

Thanks! Re injectors I think I have the peco 300cc ones (brown) which again seem marginal at this level from what I can read.

Looks like some more money coming out shortly wink

For completeness. General consensus is that a Bosch 404 is overkill and not required for me, also the Pico 330cc injectors should be fine (will check on RR in a couple of weeks). Ratrace now replaced the in tank pump with upgraded unit proven up to 500bhp, have also fitted an adjustable FPR so can fiddle with fuel pressure if needed to lower duty cycle. Will post up results once finished.

Results after Emerald mapping is the in tank competition pump, fitted by Rob at Ratrace, does a cracking job. Adjustable FPR set to just under 3.5 bar which is maintained and stable all the way to the 8700rpm limit. Brown picos were not a limit (compression was) and duration set to max 87% IIRC.

When I built my R400K series kit with a 2.3l 265bhp Duratec I just switched out the R400 pump for an R500 pump, which is what everyone building high powered Duratecs was doing at the time (2004), so I assume thats still valid and is a simple like for like in-tank replacement
