Caterham Price
Discussion
I am looking at buying my first Caterham and was just hoping to get an idea whether the one I am looking at is at about the right price.
2007 Roadsport SV
1.6 Ford
20,000 miles
Black pack
Fully weather gear
Condition: largely good, though a lot of stone chips on the main body.
They are asking £18,450 for it - is this about right for this age/model/condition?

I’ve seen an SV with a lot of bubbling along the lower side panel bottoms, surprised me really, but it was sold for£12,000. That’s a bargain for an SV, to me. Sprucing it up would cost circa 2-3000 for a stonking Car.
I’d give the one you’ve seen a thorough going over just to check. The large stone chips would annoy me.

My '09 Sigma 140 has a little bit of bubbling right at the bottom of the panels. It was £17,600 when I bought it back in 2012. It was cheap compared to others at the time, even if the paint job was a bit worn (it was an ex demo). It was however a brilliant spec with LSD, 6 speed, widetrack, 4 pot brakes (With the AP master cylinder) so it was work putting up with a less than brilliant paint job. Plan is to get it re-sprayed in the next year or so.I’d give the one you’ve seen a thorough going over just to check. The large stone chips would annoy me.
I'd say based on today's prices that 18k is very good for an SV of similar age.
If it's the yellow one at Oakmere, that's my old car. Well I say mine, I owned it from 2010 until 2015. No horror stories from when I owned it, although it didn't have many stone chips when I sold it and when I sold it it had done about 15k miles. The only issue I never truly resolved was a small coolant leak, and when I say small, it was barely noticeable apart from when stood for a long time. Feel free to PM for any info when I owned it. Maintenance wise it needed a new brake pedal switch and that's about it. I fitted the battery cut off switch for when it was garaged over winter, along with the dual courtesy socket and ctek panel charger socket. Oh I made the battery holder too and fitted the existing battery after the banner died and I wanted to replace it with something more reliable. I also had the Yokos put on it which appear to still be on it.

Regards painting - worth budgeting £2k or so for a decent paint job.
I can recommend Kenrick Motors in Llangollen. They are a Caterham service centre. Very 'old school' type of garage but workmanship is excellent - just dont be in a rush to get the car back.
Just stumbled in here as I've always had a love of Caterhams, but just why on earth does a paint job on one cost £2k?I can recommend Kenrick Motors in Llangollen. They are a Caterham service centre. There are paint jobs and paint jobs. I had the tub painted and didnt cost that much but thats where the labour is to do it properly. Much of the car stripped and taken back to bare metal and start again. Obviously corners can be cut but to do it well and get a 'factory' finish there is a chunk of work.Gassing Station | Caterham | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
