Just fitted a new 2.0 Duratec to my 06 SVR. After 100 miles of gentle running she is breathing a bit of oil via the oil filler cap.
Has anybody experienced similar and Is there an oil breather kit out there that anybody can recommend.
Thanks

Possibly a daft Q but do you have a pipe running off the head and into a catch tank somewhere as per the green pipe work outlined in diagram below?

I don't actually find much oil collects in my catch tank but if it does need to escape it goes out through that breather pipe and into the catch tank.

It’s not from the head, it’s from the back of the (plastic) cam cover. That’s the place to put it though, and as you said, there shouldn’t be much ends up in the bottle.

Be careful fitting to pipe to the cam cover, they’re easily cracked.

Thanks for your replies gents. Checked last night and there is a breather pipe attached although it simply vents to air rather than a breather tank.
Could it be as simple as a new oil filler cap is required?

Really need more info - normally a duratec cap is sealed. Is it dry sumped? What car is it in and how is it plumbed?

The car is an o6 SVR that was fitted new with a 2.3 Duratec. Ive just replaced the engine with a Raceline 2.0 Duratec. Its still wet sump.
Hopefully the attached pic shows the plumbing?

Looks very home-brewed, and definitely not an 'SVR' (shame - I was intrigued at one of them still being around).

That aside, that filler cap should be sealed, but it's not uncommon for them to leak - is that all you're seeing? The hose coming off the cam cover should be into a catch tank rather than hanging about near the exhaust, but that photo doesn't show the crankcase breather and any plenum inlet.

Thanks for your comments.
The car was sold to me as an SVR (pic attached) but as i haven't a clue about Caterham's i really wouldn't know - what makes an SVR different?
The only leak is via the oil filler cap that i can see. - i'll try a new one.
I'll also get a breather tank sorted!

The cam cover needs fettling where the cap sits, there is a small part of the moulding that holds the cap proud, this should be removed with a file. The cap will not seat until thats done.
