Discussion
Good question.
I have been a Lotus 7/Caterham owner since 1975 and was a member of the L7 Club for over 10 years. I left the club several years ago when many others did, due to the Club's Management failing to deal with the toxic and abusive members who dominated Blatchat with there smart arse, smug and sarcastic comments.
Hopefully things have improved and the code of conduct has some teeth.
Law without consequences is advice.

I guess I am a newish member of L7and negative smart ass comments are like water off a duck's back to me who GAF.
It's a forum that's all, use it for stuff that matters to you and ignore the rest.
I have found questions I ask are usually answered by a helpful few and that is all that matters to me anyway.

Some of the posters on BlatChat are like the smart schoolkids at the front of the class who put their hands up immediately to answer a question. If you sit at the back mucking about, you’ll hate them. If you sit elsewhere and you ask them to help, they’re very willing to do so and of benefit.
I have found POBC individually and collectively to be excellent people who have helped and supported me (and provided sponsor money when I did a charity bike ride) even though I have never met, and am unlikely to meet, them.

A thick skin is a useful on any forum. It's a forum that's all, use it for stuff that matters to you and ignore the rest.

However, Blatchat is a lot more civilized now than when I joined the club 8 years ago. If anything it is a bit quiet and anodyne. I would encourage any Seven owner to join the club, the magazine is good, almost all of the members i have met have been nice people and some are very helpful.

Sound like this is a very different club than the one I left after 10 years of membership. What's changed???However, Blatchat is a lot more civilized now than when I joined the club 8 years ago. Some of the people Having said that, I do feel the club would be better if they were more tolerant of other Seven style kitcars.
And there is a strange fascination with compelling owners to change their roll bars to do L7club trackdays, I just ignore this and use other organizers.

Agree... but to be fair, this month’s LowFlying has an article and several photos of our trip this year that included a W*******d! downsman said:

Again, with you... an exercise was undertaken last year to justify this policy, sorry, an investigation was undertaken which concluded that the stronger rollbar was necessary. The one thing I don't understand about Lotus 7 club is the fact that 99.99% of people in the club own Caterhams???????
Is this because they all want to associate their brand new shiny Caterhams with the heritage of the World famous 3300 or so Genuine, Scruffy/Well used Lotus maunufactured 7's ??
It would be better IMO if all the shiny Caterham owners in the L7 club left & formed their own club and called it the C7 club??
That way all us L7 owners would only have to deal with other L7 owners on Blatchat & within the L7 Club itself - seems like a common sense plan to me for both sets of owners I'm sure Caterham Cars would like this situation too
If that happened I, and I'm certain many other L7 owners would rejoin the real Lotus7 club
Having said that there are a few decent Caterham owners within the current L7 club [In fact my best mate owns a C7 [hi T ] who respect us older L7 owners, though from my experience these are well in the minority which is very sad indeed
I'm sure plenty will disagree - but what other current car club can you name with the wrong club title DUH ?????
It's time for Caterham owners to move on, and leave the L7 club to people who own real L7's

I agree there needs to be two different clubs. Why is this so hard for others to grasp?
The L7C Management must be living in some dark cave. Didn’t the lights come on for them when (Caterham Cars the manufacture) pulled away, it really does beggar belief. Wouldn't it seem a no brainer that a club representing a certain type of car would want the support of the manufacturer. I don't get it.
Come on L7C Management, change the damn name and move on, and when you do I own the domain name for the new club. www.caterham.club

The name issue was subject to open vote a few years ago and Lotus won.The people have spoken and all that. The relationship with Caterham has often been poor . and Caterham's conduct at the 60th was disgraceful.
Having said that. I still feel that Caterham is the right name for the club .

As "Coppice" points out. It's not the management team, but the general membership, that have chosen (more than once in my 18 years of membership) to retain the link to the Lotus heritage. fergus said:

Was it a case of a no-show, or a poor-show on their part?Caterham - "No you're alright thanks"
Frankly I don't blame Caterham at all.
