Discussion
Hi to all
I,m looking for a project / budget “ 7 “. Anything to keep me out the pub.
Have seen a yellow 97 Zetec.Broken gearbox & dodgie head gasket has anyone viewed the car,it resides in Hertfordshire, distance is no object, just trying to avoid a wasted trip.
Cash reward if you can put me in touch with a similar car .
Thanks .Regards Baz

Congratulations on your internet search skills. It's always nice to get help. As for the car, whether it is worth it depends on how much it would cost to get the engine problems sorted. It might be worth investigating.
It certainly won't have been a Zetec from the factory. Possibly built from a starter kit or a converted crossflow. Could all be ok. Looks a bit expensive with a box and engine rebuild to do - especially if you have to pay someone to do it. As it's not standard it won't ever reach peak valuations.
Straight cut box will be noisy.
As a 1997 car it was just at the end of the shocking chassis prep era where they rotted. Looks nice and shiny, but check underneath for chassis condition.
Should check the quoted power figure. Looks like it's in the realm of what Dunnell do (did?) on carbs, but it's still a big number.
At the end it could be a nice powerful 7 if a bit niche-y.

It's worth a look if you're handy on the spanners. It was probably a crossflow. Lot's of people do the crossflow zetec conversions.
I don't think you'll find one much cheaper than that.
As has previously been mentioned, check the chassis for corrosion, the sideskins, grot traps along the side of the pedal/foot boxes, and along the lower chassis rails, generally where muck can get trapped between the tubes and alloy skin..
Let us know how you get on
